This topic is something new on my political debate list. It came to be after someone brought it up in Social Studies class. The project was a bill and we had to debate it and then try and get it passed through a mock Senate and House of Representatives.
This girls bill was to stop animal testing and make it illegal. Fair enough I suppose a short debate right? No. This is because her bill wanted to instead of using animals for testing cosmetics and other products she wanted to test them on death row prisoners. That sent me over the edge. As soon as it was said i stood up and started to debate, I got 10 seconds in and the substitute told me "Well, that's your opinion and, now your starting to shout! Take a seat!" Basically she yelled at me for injecting my opinion into a political debate.
The reason I was so strongly opposed to this mock bill is because it totally violates the rights set in the U.S. Constitution about cruel and usually punishment. Some people may think that because they are death row prisoners and they've done bad things that they deserve to be tested on. In my opinion that's not right and, it places the rights of animals above the rights of human beings. SO what is your opinion on the matter?
Should U.S. prisoners be treated like this and be denied their Constitutional rights? or should the rights of animals trump that?
Also, was that substitute at fault for yelling at me for injecting my opinion into a political debate or not?
Please comment on the bottom, Thank you.
