Part 1 - Human Sciences
Every person is different, this much understandable. We all think differently, in different perspectives, and we all have to accept this. I have come to accept myself as a black hat thinker through Edward De Bono's Six Thinking Hats theory. An instinctive black hat thinker means that the first thing that comes to the person's mind about a subject will be pessimistic. That is not always a bad aspect, jumping to the worst case scenario. In this case, I will present my point of view on the future of mankind, not for the better but for the worst.
The first question we have to ask ourselves is: what is declining or advancing of mankind? To many people, it means to be more aware of moral and social implications of the concequences of our actions. I, however, am forced to disagree, or simply question the meaning of the ambiguity of the word "development".
Technology is developing almost faster than we can catch up. Living in Hong Kong, the trading centre of Asia, I have witnessed its vast changes throughout the very little number of years I remember. My sense perception tells me that it is changing too fast for its own good. When we were in primary school, our image of a mobile phone of 2050 would have the internet, all your friends and able to chat with your friends face to face. Now, the iPhone 3G has come out in 2008...showing how scarily fast our world is changing. Is it, however, for the better?
We look at ourselves. Facebook, email, MSN, IM, they all "connect" us. Yes, they let us talk to our friends almost wherever we are, This, on the other hand, has lessened the time we get to spend with our friends, face to face. Look at us here in Gaia. It is almost like a virtual second life, and we are chatting through Gaia IM...etc. It is the very reason why people's communication skills are declining rapidly these years. This is not a statement, but a conclusion I have come to through deductive reasoning. It is what my mind has processed through the stories I have heard, and what I perceive the near future to be like.
Mankind is advancing in technology, and to me it is faster than its own good. It has resulted in people's minds not able to follow with the pace, and resulting in them not being able to adapt fully to the fast changing life style. It is no one else's fault--it is our own.
