Yesterday my family and I went to a restaurant that was new just to see how it was. We got there and there was a wait to be seated, 15 minutes, not a long wait. When we got seated (and here's where the memories kick in) our waitress was a girl I graduated from high school with and went to middle school with. Her name is Lauren. When I saw her it brought back memories from middle school, when Lauren was in the same math class as I was and she was also about 2 inches taller than I, however that doesn't matter.
The flash backs of middle school set in, the good times, the bad times, and the time I spent in I.S.S. for becoming the school hero because I hit a kid (let me tell you, he deserved it). And all these memories, some more found than others, were all sparked by one person who used to be a colleague of mine. The first time I thought of kissing a girl, the first time I was embarrassed in front of a class of peers, the feeling of my fist connecting with the jaw of that kid, the solitude of confinement, the joy of having friends, the crushing feeling of a girl I liked turning me down, and the spark of a first love. All of those things came to mind from just seeing a person whom I never socialized with, her being popular and I being in the outcast group.
Now Lauren is waiting on my family, most likely not ever recognizing who I was, and I'm going to school 300 miles from my hometown. I expected her to still be taller than me, however, I'm about 3 inches tall than her now. It just comes to show that seeing people you know, or even people you just recognize from school, can bring back memories that you thought you'd never think about again.
And then I thought of my friends, and the memories that I'm making, the one that I love (my dearest starshine), and the friendships that are still to be made. Thinking, if I lose everything, I hope never to lose my memories.
