Today I had the random thought that I was going to go back and play all of the Final Fantasy games that I have saved on my computer. I remember playing one [The dawn of souls version on the gameboy] when I was about twelve years old. I love RPG games, even though some people hate them just due to the fact you have to read text etc. not that I do not like a good hack and slash like Champions of Norrath. Which is an RPG game in some ways.
Anyways I am getting off topic. I started playing FF1 yesterday morning. I played it for about 7 hours. Mainly the things I can remember go here. The princess has been kidnapped by the main villain, like a few generic things I can think of, and you are asked to go and save her. Your characters are the crystal bearers, their task is to bring light back to all of the crystals. You head north and enter a cave, dark music plays, and you enter a room with five bats flying around, and the main enemy who looks like a dark knight to me standing in the middle of the room. Dialogue, and then a battle. After killing him with my weak party made of a monk, thief, white mage, and a black mage, I head back to the castle and talk to the king, his princess now by his side. He rebuilds the bridge to the north which is where your next main quest is. So I leave town and cross the bridge, heading east after I pass it, and then south as I hit a mountain range [I think not sure it was a while ago. Like 13 hours]. I reach a town that is being raided as well as controlled by pirates, and find the head pirate, who orders his men to kill me, I kill them easily, and he gives you a boat saying he will turn over a new leaf.
Cue heading south-west. To the elf village where you find out there king has been put into a deep slumber by an evil elf who wants to be king and rule the world. So you are supposed to find a way to wake up the king who has been asleep five years. I take my time to train around the village to afford items, then head West-North-West-North to a castle where a king on a throne with nobody around asking me to find his crown so he can bring his nation back. I go south to a swamp. Fight enemies and head about three floors down. Here I fight three enemies. I do not remember the name but they are like the mindsweeper enemies or whatever they are called. The lesser form of the ones that paralyze you like assholes. Anyways I get the crown in a chest behind them, leave, take it to the king, and LOW AND BEHOLD he transforms into the dark elf king, ranting about how he can not be challenged with the crown as well as a crystal eye he stole from an old witch. Mean right? I kill him. And take the eye. As well as my crown. That hoebag.
SHIP TIME! I head north to the old "pirate" village and north from there, far north. Faaaaaar north. And find a cave. In it is a broom that talks backwards and tells you "Press select+B to open your map" or something like that. b***h a** game. Anyways I go into a door by the broom, and the witch is walking around, tripping every step. I give her the glass eye, she gives me a potion to wake up the elf king. Boom. Fair trade. Travel back to the elf castle. Talk to the king's attendant and give him the potion. He revives the king. The king gives me a key that opens locked doors.
Travel back to every place I can remember with a locked door and get a keg of explosives. I travel east from the starting castle, dock, and walk south-west to find a cave full of little dwarfs. They blow up a piece of land that was blocking my exit. I get back in my ship and sail to the west, gaining exp on the way. I dock and find a town where the earth looks dead. They tell me that a vampire is taking the earth and destroying it. I travel west and south to a cave, I go down three floors that lead everywhere, and I fight him, barely killing him with one person dead and three alive. Damn exp. I take a ruby he had in a chest behind him. I leave and head west, to another cave, where I feed a golem the ruby to gain passage to ANOTHER cave, where I meet a sage who tells me it was not the vampire, but lich, a demon of the earth, who was sucking the earth crystal dry and destroying the land. I go BACK to the vampire cave, ALL the way down, and to the room by it, with a rod the sage gave me, I summon a set of stairs under a panel. I go down two more floors. And I fight and kill Lich easier than the vampire. Crystal gets restored, I take the teleport out, head back to town, and leave to the south on my boat. And then the west. Crescent island. Yay!
Here I get equipment and get a canoe from some very hidden old men. They tell me that I should come back when I restore all of the crystals. I head to the west on rivers, to a volcano, and I enter it. Heading down to find the boss here. I am going to be vague now since I hate the next few parts. I kill her. Restore the crystal. Head back to town. Get another item. Go to the rivers AGAIN. And go to a desert on that island that gives you the airship. Yay!
After this I did a lot of random things including evolving my characters since I have beaten the game with first-class characters before. Rat's tail to Bahamut for a class change wut? Then I find out a fairy had been stolen from a lake. Oh no! After this I head to the western continent. I go to town and find out where the caravan with the fairy is. I head east. Buy the fairy for 40k, and then head back to Gaia. The town where she was taken from. She flies off, I go find her, and she gives me beer that lets me breathe water. Way to go FF1. I head back to the continent I bought her from, take the river north to a waterfall, and enter a cave behind it. I go west in the cave and find a robot who gives me the warp cube. Which I need for later. I go back, talk to a lady outside of a makeshift submarine, and enter it, able to breathe water now thank god. The sea shrine!
I head north-east. Then take about three stairs up to a mermaid village where there are no enemies. Here I get the rosetta stone which lets you learn a lost language that you need in the game soon. I leave this town and head to the first floor and to the west, stairs leading down. Down. Down. I go and kill some enemies that I need to kill and get to the boss. I fight and kill him. Water crystal restored!
[[I just realized that there is a cavern of ice where you get the levistone for the airship which is actually north-east of the crescent isle. Then you dock and head west to the cavern on your canoe]]
Now is the fun part. Leave. And fly to a desert south-east of Gaia. Climb it and you are transferred to the air fortress. Go through it. Kill Tiamat. Get the air crystal healed. Yay! And I stop now because this is where I left off, this whole thing sucks, and I am tired =]
