TL;DR
It was hot, it was sweaty, it was loud, it was intense, it was ******** awesome. I still can't hear properly, my voice is sore, my feet still hurt from standing for over two-and-half hours, and that's the way it should be. "He was like Richard Simmons with an arsenal of f-bombs." [X]
Franz Ferdinand
We were close enough to see Alex's tight plaid pants, so that was good enough for me. I want him as a boyfriend! If for nothing but the Glaswegian accent alone. They opened with "No You Girls" which is one of my favorites (and on a different subject that may be more interesting to certain people – one of the top songs that gets me in the mood). They played a bit from all three albums, which was nice. "Take Me Out" was the first time I went into hardcore jump mode for the night. Love at the guy in the pit who was really into them. Great band live. They said Green Day rocks, Green Day said they rocked, all is good.
Green Day
Yes, everyone knows Billie Joe is a fine piece of work. Been there, done that. These guys are all awesome and proof that I could never be in a band like Green Day. But. We already knew that, right? Tre Cool makes me want to pick up a pair of sticks and finally teach myself how to play. Not that Billie Joe and Mike are any less genius, I'm just saying.
It's the 21st Century Breakdown Tour, so of course they started off with the first three from that album. It was still dark when "Song of the Century" came on, then you heard the piano on "21st Century Breakdown" and instant hysteria. Amazing song, even better live. Billie Joe asks if we know our ******** enemy and they go into "Know Your Enemy." Up next, "East Jesus Nowhere." I think it was in the middle of that he said he was looking for a kid to sacrifice and asked who would give up their first-born in the name of Green Day. He brought a girl on stage, finished the song, and she died an amusing fake death. Lucky kid.
The first encore started with "American Idiot" – just as I predicted. Because obviously they wouldn't not play it. Then "Minority," another favorite that I haven't heard in the longest time. Second encore was a few acoustic songs. Normally, I'm not too fond of acoustics. Just aren't. His were quite nice, though.
