A Touch of History
This will mostly contain history stuff.
* 12 Percent of North Carolina Republicans don't believe or aren't sure Hawaii is part of the US. Don't Republicans own or have access to maps? Can't they just look this stuff up if they aren't sure? Are there no Public Libraries in North Carolina?

* Wow, Rachel Maddow got people to donate uniforms and equipment to the Iraqi national baseball team. They have cleats, uniforms, and gear now. Yes, it's just a sport, but it still warms my evil little heart.

* Reminded me never to piss off the BPAL boarders. That group shunning across the whole internet thing is rough. not that beneath glass doesn't deserve it, but I never want that degree of wrath and persistence turned on me.

* Did y'all see the anti- health care reform folks claiming that if Stephen Hawking had lived in the UK they would have killed him? not noticing that Mr. Hawking is from the UK. He write back pointing out he wouldn't be alive if it weren't for excellent and extensive care from the NHS. *facepalm* Research, Guys. It doesn't take that long.

* More horrible baby cakes: http://cakewrecks.blogspot.com/2009/08/it-came-from-baby-shower.html

This is a true story, or so I was told. A friend of mine in college told it. When he was in middle school, in a small Nebraska town, there was a transfer student from Hawaii. The school held an assembly to inform the other students that a 'foreigner' would soon be joining their number, and that they should all be sensitive to the cultural differences he was about to encounter. The school nurse actually asked his mother if there were any special nutricianal needs they'd need to know about, since he'd grown up his whole life eating nothing but pineapple and sugar cane, and likely had very poor dental hygiene. WTF? His parents found it all very offensive, but he was very amused and milked it to the max, I guess. This was the early 80s, and he got himself a mohawk and told his teachers -- who believed him! -- that everyone in his 'home country of Hawaii' had them.

So I'm not the least bit surprised that people in North Carolina are unsure about Hawaii's statehood. In fact, I'm surprised they know Hawaii is on the same planet. The capacity for idiocy is limitless.
