When there's nothing left, man will turn to war for a means of entertainment... Those fools...If you are curious as to what this applies to, look up Sly's fox hole. The guild forum is where this comes in.
Ch. 1: Company
AUTHOR'S NOTE: I am really proud to have finally released the first chapter of my fanfic. This is a lot different than what I had first saved, except for the introduction to the chapter. I tried my best here, so I hope you like the extended version. I'm still trying to get used to Artemis, so I'm sorry to Lady Artemis Kisarugi if I didn't properly play the role of her character. She had let me know that her character was a huge flirt, so that's what I was aiming for with her. Anyways, enough babbling, here's the chapter.

Once again, Kojin found himself backed into a corner. Unfortunately, he was defenseless this time, and couldn't see a way out. All around him, men with guns blocked any possible escape routes. He frowned at the situation. He doubted that even with his normal luck, not every bullet would bounce off the metallic faceplate he wore.

Then a flash of light filled the area, and a bullet penetrated his lower abdomen, pushing him backwards. He felt pain course through his whole body. A moment later, a second flash lit the area, and another wave of pain washed over him.

Suddenly, the whole room was flickering from gunfire. He felt his body starting to go numb. A powerful hit forced him backwards into the wall.

He slid down as the barrage of gunfire left welts in his naturally thick skin. Once or twice a bullet had managed to pierce his skin, and embed itself within him.

He felt sleepy. Leaning his head against the wall, he lost consciousness as his body relaxed and his mind went blank as everything around him faded into darkness.

Kojin opened his eyes. Dr. Himoshi was standing over him, removing a device from atop his head.

"How much longer must I put up with this nonsense, Doctor?" Kojin asked. "You're hallucinations are merely irritating. I don't see any type of useful data you can get from pissing me off."

"I'm not trying to piss you off, Kojin. I'm trying to find out how much it would take to kill off unique beings such as yourself, and if so, lengthen your already naturally long lifespan." Dr. Himoshi replied. It was obvious he was lying through his teeth. "As long as it takes, though. It could be days, or weeks. Maybe even months."

Kojin blew a fuse, which wasn't exactly uncommon for him. He had a short temper to begin with. He stood up, and towered over the doctor, looking down on him.

"No. It's over. That's it! You've already used me as a guinea pig for the past two days. I will not put up with another hour of this electronic hallucinating bullshit!" Kojin was pointing angrily, jamming his finger repeatedly into Dr. Himoshi's chest. "You want someone to expirament on, find someone else. I refuse to help you out anymore." Kojin walked over to the other end of the room, and picked up his weapons off the tabletop.

He turned back to Dr. Himoshi. "The next time we meet, I will not be so kind. You pushed me over the edge. Next time you see me, you won't see anything else afterwords. You will die."

He turned and exited the room.

Dr. Himoshi stood there calmly throughout the whole rant, and even still so after Kojin left. Moments passed before he seemed to come back to reality. He smirked.

"I don't need you anymore, honestly. I was just hoping you'd stick around so I could see you're face twisted in agony in your sleep. I have all the data that I need..."

~~~
Kojin exited quietly through the front doors of the building. He was beyond irritated.
What he heard next didn't help.
"Koooojiiiii!!!!" He heard an all too familiar voice. Artemis was running towards him waving frantically. He knew her well enough to know how she worked. She was a total flirt, and would do a lot for attention. He shuddered lightly. He had asked her multiple times not to call him that, but she did it anyways.
"Hey Artemis..." He said, obviously not enthused about her appearance. It was one annoyance after another for him today. "What's going on?"
"Sly wondered why you didn't show up like planned." She said. Kojin knew otherwise.
"Sly knows where I went. I told him earlier about Dr. Himoshi wanting me in again today. In fact, that's probably how you knew to find me here, correct?" Kojin asked.
Artemis stopped in her tracks. She was looking down at her feet, her hands clasped tightly behind her back. She looked blatantly disappointed.
"Looks like you caught me," She muttered. A sad aura seemed to fill the surrounding area. "The truth is..." She looked up at him with a wink. "I was worried about you."
Kojin should have been expecting this, knowing how big of a flirt she really is, but for some reason, he didn't. He felt his face get hot. This was unusual for him. He looked away. "Heh..." He scratched the back of his head lightly.
She pushed up against him. "You like me...right?" She asked.
Kojin honestly didn't know how to respond, so he simply nodded.
"Good. C'mon. Sly's waiting for us." She ran ahead as though the conversation had never actually happened.
However, Kojin was stuck with painful memories of the war that had begun because of the demon inside him. A war between brothers. A war between himself and Sly.
The whole time, he had thought that Sly had been the cause of the war, but it was really the demon that started it all.
A while after the war finally came to an end, he was back by Sly's side, as though nothing had ever happened.
Sly had mentioned something about needing Kojin to prepare for a lot of training, but he still had no clue why he was gonna need training.
"Kojin?" Artemis had stopped when she noticed he hadn't been one step behind her. She had a sincerely worried look on her face.
He was pulled out of his trance-like state of mind. He walked up to her side again, ready to finally head back off.
"What was that all about," Artemis asked, confused.
"Nothing..."
"You had me worried," she warned.
"I noticed, now get over it." He grumbled. She looked annoyed.
You don't have to be such a d**k about it," She muttered angrily.
"Yeah, well it's over, and I don't feel even the slightest bit of remorse for the words I have said to you. You need to learn that words are just that. Words. I don't care what you think of me, or anyone else for that matter. When you feel like you've pouted enough, catch up."
He walked off without waiting for a reply.
"Too bad you're parents weren't around long enough to teach you how to treat others..." Artemis muttered.
Kojin stopped in his tracks. He looked over his shoulder at her with a glare.
She had a smirk across her face. She had obviously struck a nerve. She followed after him.
She caught up quickly, because he obviously wasn't in that big of a hurry to return. Then again, not that long ago, him and Sly had become mortal enemies. She looked at him, and remembered his demonic eyes, and bloodstained face.
The eyes had a fierceness in them that sent a chill down her spine, and she hadn't ever felt real fear before. Not in that big of a quantity anyways.
He hadn't looked at all like he normally did. Even though he seemed to hide it, she had the distinct feeling that he wasn't all battle-hardened. She'd just have to find a way to break through his shell.
She noticed his face change a little bit. He looked a little more sad than he had a moment ago. She wondered for a moment that she may have gone too far with the comment about his parents.
"Hey?" Kojin said without turning his vision to her. "Sorry about the way I treated you just now. I should have been a little nicer to you. After all, you're one of my only real friends."
She smiled. She wasn't expecting it, but it was a nice surprise to hear him apologize. Kojin normally didn't apologize unless it was a very rare, and special occasion. To her it was a sign that he was lightening up a little. So much if she hadn't broken through. His shell was cracked.
To him, he had felt remorse for his actions, especially after the way she had made him blush, which was no easy task. For a brief moment, he really enjoyed her company.
