Chapter One
Now, in a world not very different than ours, lived a scientist who went by the name Zero. Zero was in is early twenties, and one day, he became bored. “I have all this s**t everywhere, and I can’t clean it,” he groaned as he ran his fingers through his dark hair, and looked at his night stand which was covered in papers, just like everything else in his room, along with his bed. He cursed, “What the hell am I-” he stopped as an idea popped into his evil mind, and a crooked smile slowly spread across his face, “that’s it!” he exclaimed, jumping off his bed and running to his cluttered desk. “It’s just, just, so perfect! Why had I not thought of this before?!” He began to furiously write down every single thought that was going through his mind, which ranged from numbers to a large sketch of a girl. Now, Zero was a very good artist, and his whole idea was to build a girl. Not a human girl, but a girl that had cat ears and a fluffy cat tail, because what was sexier than that? In his sketch, she wore a maid outfit that was entirely white. Her hair was short, white, and it rest against her face perfectly. Her cat ears and cat tail were white as well, while her skin was extremely pale, and her eyes were a light, grayish silver. Zero stretched, his back hurt a little from not ever sitting in a chair when he wrote his ideas. He was 6’5, so he was hunched over whenever he wrote on his desk. “The experiment starts tomorrow,” he said, grinning as he ran his hand through his hair. It was already quite late, and Zero hadn’t eaten all day due to his bad sleeping habits. The house in which he lived was large and empty, everyplace in the house was clean but the room in which he spent most of his time. Zero yawned; it was at least some unbelievable time in the morning, and he was still tired. He turned to face away from his desk and plopped back into his bed, cuddling up to his pillow before going back to his death-like sleep.
It was a new day, perhaps a much better day. Zero’s sleep was disturbed by the ringing of his doorbell, over, and over, and over again. There was only one person who would do that. A lovely female who went by the name of Dice; she was a ‘gangster’, who was basically the top dog in the neighborhood Zero lived in. The only way Zero could describe her was sexy; and she was very good looking. She was the normal height of 5’5 and she weighed somewhere about 119 lbs. Dice had nice curves and long, straight, black hair perfectly framing her perfect face. She was around the age of 17 and her true name was Rebecca Lucile. Her skin was a beautiful olive color and always smooth, never ashy, and her lips were never chapped. Now, most people would ask why a ‘gangster’ was visiting such a, well, not normal person such as Zero. The true reason is, Dice has nothing better to do, and everyone fears her except Zero.
Zero groaned as he stretched his upper back, and looked to his own door as if it were the front door, and smiled a little. There was loud pounding coming from the front of the house. Dice was being impatient. Zero stood up and stretched again, walking to his door, opening it, then to his large double glass panel doors. “Well, long time no talk, Rebecca,” Zero said, smiling as he spoke through his door. On the other side of the door, a low growl could be heard, “Just let me in, you jackass.” Zero just laughed, “Oh my dear, you are the feisty one,” he said, opening the door, revealing a beautiful girl with her arms crossed over her chest and cold blue eyes attempting to pierce through Zero’s soul behind it. Dice rolled her deep blue eyes, and looked back at Zero, “Well?” Her lower lip was showing more than her upper, giving her that I’m-in-a-bitchy-mood look. Zero smiled, “Well, what do you want me to do, Rebecca? Kiss your feet, while you try to walk all over me like you do with everyone else?”
“Excuse me, but I don’t know who Rebecca is,” she said, removing her arms from her chest, and placing her hands on her hips. Her anger only amused Zero more, “I’m sorry, Dice. Please forgive me,” he said, backing away from the door to let Dice know she could come in. Dice walked in and shot Zero a look, “I don’t mean to be such a b***h, but you know how I am,” she said, giving an innocent smile. Zero took her by her wrist and pulled her in closer to him as he raised her chin so she was looking at him straight in the eye, “Oh I very much do,” he said, he lips curling into a smile. Now, this was the strange relationship they shared. They would both mess with each other like this, whether it was sexual or not. It didn’t really matter, sense Zero never went outside. He reached for her thigh to pull up on his leg, but she slapped his hand and he let go of her completely.
“So, what is your evil experiment today, freak?” she asked sitting down on a cream colored couch that was near the modern styled kitchen. He looked at her and smiled, “Now, how did you know I was going to be… experimenting today?” Dice looked away sharply, then smiled, “Your stupid brain always come up with ideas around the same time during each month,” she stood up, “but because you don’t keep a Goddamned clock or calendar in this house, you wouldn’t know,” she walked over to the kitchen’s island and slammed her hand on it, looking across at Zero. He laughed, and walked to the fridge, “You know me too well, Rebecca; drink?”
“Dice,” she said reminded him coldly, “and… what do you have?”
“Hmm,” he took a second to look before he began to name every liquid type thing in there, “Coke, Pepsi, milk, orange juice, and water.” She sighed, “Give me some water.” Zero took a glass pitcher out of the fridge that was filled with ice water, and he looked at Dice really quick before going to one of the cabinets for a glass, “You on one of those diets again? Those are bad for you, you know. And plus, you’re going to keep your figure no matter how much you eat, sense you’re so,” he tried to hold back a laugh, “ active.” Dice glowered at him, “Shut up you ******** face, I’ve never done that in my life..”
“Language dear, l-a-n-g-u-a-g-e,” he said, smiling at her as he placed the glass on the table and poured some cold water into it, then pushed it towards Dice. She took it in her hands, as the beads of water began to slowly appear on the outside of the glass, she sighed, “Well, you never told me about your new ‘project’,” she said, doing air quotes as she said project. Zero leaned on the island and looked at her, “Rebecca, it is not very nice to put your nose where it does not belong,” he said smiling. She rolled her eyes, “I’ll just forget you called me that, and Zero, seriously, just tell me. I actually want to know for once,” she leaned her head in her hands on the island, and raised a perfect eyebrow waiting for Zero to respond. He couldn’t turn her down, that would be just rude. But he supposed it wouldn’t matter, because they were always rude to each other. “I’m not doing anything Rebecca,” he said, standing straight up. She gave out a ‘pffftttt’ sound from her mouth, “Bull s**t. I know when you’re lying to me you b*****d-“
“Language.”
“-now knock it off, and tell me,” she was now standing straight as well, and she had her hands clenched with anger. Zero looked at her in suspicion, “Answer one question.”
She waited.
“Why do you want to know so… so badly?”
She slammed her fist on the counter, “Because I want to know, damn it! Now tell me!” Zero smiled, “I can tell when you’re lying too. Now confess up, missy.” She glared at him, then looked down at her feet, “I want to know what is so Goddamn important about these stupid projects of yours that you NEVER leave your house.”
Silence.
Not that, omg-who-died?- silence; but the silence where you just wanted to saw the tension with a steak knife. Zero walked over to Dice, grabbing her hand, “Come follow me, I’ll show you,” he said, pulling her along to his room. He opened the door, and motioned her to come over to his desk as he slammed his hand on the large piece of paper that held everything about the new experiment. “That’s it,” he said, quite proud of himself.
“You’re-“
“Making a girl, that’s right. I have to start today, or else I won’t ever get to it,” he said looking at Dice with a sparkle in his eyes that was like a kid on Christmas. She sighed, “I’ll leave, God, you could have just asked. You know I hate those ‘hint’ sentences. Just go out and say what you need to say, Goddamn,” she said, shaking her head as she walked to the large doors of the house, and then exiting them.
She turned to look at the large house; honestly, she wished he would come out every now and then. Dice was kind of curious how he would get along with other people. The town they lived in was one of those kinds of towns you see in those old movies. No sidewalks, just grass everywhere and the only place that had no grass was the town square which had floor of brick. It was surrounded by a forest once you reached the outskirts of town, which no one ever dared enter, not even badass Dice. The town was old looking, that was for sure. The majority of the houses were made of brick, and others that were made of wood, were mostly the shops. Dice went up to the side of a brick house, jumped, and held on to the railing of the side of the house, then pulling herself up. She began to run over the houses, with a slight hope to run into another Tagger. A Tagger is what they called the ‘gangsters’ around here. They left marks on buildings that were in the area they owned. Dice’s mark was obvious; two dices with hearts instead of dots on the dice. She went down a list of other Taggers in her head: first there was Dai and her preppy look a likes. Then there was Lock, he was pretty badass for not owning any territory and being a loner. Spade was the same way, but too lazy and carefree to even try and gain some territory. Club and Ace had decided to pair up to try and expand their territory, which almost worked until Dice took out most of their Tag members. And the person who she actually had to be careful of was Pack. Pack was a newcomer, but he obviously was running from justice. Where ever he was from, you knew he was the boss around there.
Dice stopped and sat down on the edge of the clock tower and sighed, “This town is so BORING.”
“You’re telling me,” an unknown voice said with a slight chuckle. Dice looked to her left; it was Pack, out of ALL Taggers, it had to be HIM. Dice’s hands were shaking, but she placed them under her legs so he couldn’t see. Pack was a beautiful pale; he had sliver eyes and copper colored hair. When standing he was around 6’3.
Dice had to regain herself before speaking. “Why are you here, Pack?”
“Well,” Pack was sitting next to her now, his arm slowly creeping its way around her waist, “I got bored, annnndddd, just found myself coming here,” he said slowly, looking at Dice with a wicked smile. Dice shook him off and stood up before jumping off of the clock tower and landing perfectly on the ground. She looked up, and he was gone.
Zero stretched and looked at his experiment; so far, he had the head and torso done perfectly. Now he just needed the lower part of her body before he could add the arms and legs. The project had beautiful snow-white hair, large white kitty ears, and a long fluffy tail that was white as well. The skin was soft to the touch and extremely pale. He let his hand wander along the lifeless body, and he smiled. Soon, she would be finished and moving around like a human.
It was a new day, and Dice had been thinking nonstop about stupid Pack. She knew he was just thinking of some evil plot to get rid of her or make her bottom of the tag chain. Dice placed her hair up in a lose pony, and walked out of her ‘pad’ which was made of mostly makeshift things, and the way out was through a large drain pipe, which you had to crouch down a little bit to get out of it. Today, Dice wore short denim shorts, a black tank top, black ribbon around her neck, knee-high combat boots, and some leather gloves in case she needed to kick someone’s a**. Dice was in that mood today. Whenever she was in that mood, she’d put her hair up, so any Normies (people who weren’t taggers or abnormal people) would get out of her way without question. Dice sped by people, her fists balled up, and was on her way to Zero’s house. Her pad was about a ten minute walk to Zero’s house and on her way to his house, she saw Zero appear from the crowd, looking like he’d seen a ghost.
“Well, well, well. What’s wrong, freak?” She leaned on one leg and crossed her arms, raising an eyebrow at him, while he pushed her jokingly, though he was actually quite serious, “I lost it.”
“No s**t Sherlock, I’ve known that for years-“
“No, no, no,” he said, shaking his hands, “I lost her.” Dice’s eyes widened, “You actually finished the project in less than-“
“Yes, yes, now help me look,” he said, pulling her along with him in the direction the opposite of his house. She rejected him, and stood her ground, “First off, why should I help, and second, how would I know if it were her; I don’t know what she looks like.”
Zero sighed, “I’m your friend, and she looks,” he paused, and smiled slightly, “she looks like you, like, almost dead on like you. Only she has short white hair, cat ears, and tail… and she can’t speak-“
“WHAT?! You made something look like me!?”
“Well, um, yeah,” he laughed slightly, “but think of it in a way that… you’re famous or something; just help me find her,” he said to Dice franticly. She sighed, looked away, and finally let out a small, “Fine,” and jumped onto a building, “You search the streets and I’ll search the Tags for information.”
“Got it.”
So now, the race to find the runaway robot-cat-girl was on. The robot had a navigation system, thanks to Zero, and was more than likely roaming around or looking for something it found interest in. By four o’clock midday, no one had any luck, and the met up at Town Square. Dice sat down on the edge of the fountain as the stray drops of water danced upon her face, cooling her off, “Any luck?”
“No,” Zero said with a disappointed sigh, “I don’t know where the hell she could be. Dice, if you were a robot, slash cat, slash girl, where would you be?”
“Well,” she said, resting her elbows on her knees as she leaned forward, “I would be looking for trouble, or some Taggers.” Zero looked at her, “That’s not good,” he said, placing his hand on his forehead, and leaned back a little, “now I know what it feels like to lose your child in the market place.” Dice placed a comforting hand on Zero’s shoulder and laughed, “I’m sure she’s fine. Can you tell me a little about her?”
“Well, she looks almost dead on like you, though I made some adjustments, like height and weight.”
“How tall is she?”
“5’4.”
“Um, then how much does she weigh?”
Zero paused and smiled a small smile, “Eleven thousand, five hundred TONS.”
