Himayura's Ukraine
[As stated in the Hetalia Archives]
Ukraine has short blond hair, blue eyes, and wears blue overalls. Her most notable feature however, is her large breast size, representing Ukraine's agricultural status. She is sometimes seen carrying a pitchfork, representing both her national symbol of the trident and agriculture. Ukraine is the eldest of the Soviet family, which consists of her, Russia, and Belarus. She is constantly dragged into some sort of mess. Russia describes her as being very warm-hearted and motherly, having taken care of him and Belarus when they were children. She's a bit of a cry-baby, but has a big heart. She often has chest and back pains due to her assets. She also gave Russia his scarf when they were little.
Ukraine's History
[It should be noted that Himayura does not provide intensive backgrounds for Hetalia countries. This is a purely fan-made background using Ukrainian history that is stated on Wikipedia]
The Golden Age of Kiev
When Ukraine was a child, she was stronger than she is now. Under her grandfather, Kievan Rus, she witnessed the rise of The Golden Age of Kiev. Christianity was accepted and the creation of the first East Slavic written law took place during this time. The name Ukraine first started to appear in the 12th century. Before this, she was simply a region of Kievan Rus to her peers and people. However, Ukraine was what her siblings and her grandfather have always called her. During the time of Kievan Rus, Russia and Belarus stayed with her. She and her siblings lived happily under there grandfather's roof. However, prosperity started to fade as conflict between people in her house caused decline. Russia and Belarus separated from Ukraine and not long after the start of the decline, all three siblings were subject to Mongol invasion. In 1240, the Mongols took a hold of Ukraine and placed her with the other Slavic countries gathered in the Golden Horde. During this time, she was taught things by Ulus of Jochi, but the Empire it's self did not pay much attention to her. As the Mongol Empire was focusing on Russian territory, she was neglected all together.
Living with Poland and Lithuania
During the 14th century, Poland and Lithuania fought against the Mongol invaders. After many successful wins, they claimed Ukraine as part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. While staying in their house, Ukraine cleaned and cooked. Around this time her breast were developing and was made fun of my Poland for it, a lot. About every other sentence he said, he made fun of her breast. She hated the jokes he made of her, calling her various child-like names. Tension hit a climax when she gave Poland food poisoning, causing Lithuania to take action against her. After this, she rebelled.
Cossack Ukraine
Ukraine snapped back at Poland and Lithuania, causing the age of 'Ruin' for Poland and Lithuania. She came out victorious and became the Cossack state of Zaporozhian Host. During this time she was very strong-willed and was willing to stand up for what she thought was right. Her main rivals during this time were Poland, Lithuania, the Ottoman Empire, and her brother, Russia. After ending a long and bitter war with Poland, she sought a treaty of protection with her brother, fearing that Poland might run to Lithuania for help. Russia agreed under the one condition that she be under his control. Poland and Lithuanian came to Ukraine to sign a peace treaty, but after another 13 years of war, it was called off. Ukraine was then sent to Russia's house, where she lived for centuries.
Life With Her Brother - The Russian Empire
At first, Ukraine ruled herself, but after a few decades, Russian rule took hold. She was forced to fight along side her brother during the Russo-Turkish wars, causing the Ottoman empire to recede from Ukraine. Ukraine was very inspired by the movements of the arts in the other nations and started to create things herself. Russia, however, found this to be the starts of separation and destroyed any of the art that he could find. However, after imposing limitations, Russia allowed Ukraine to write, paint, and compose, as long as it was in Russian and of Russian culture. For a short period of time, Ukraine lived with Austria. During this time, she longed to be back with her brother. Austria, who couldn't stand the thought of Russia, sent her to do labor.
The October Revolution - The Catalyst
The Great War, or World War 1, and the October Revolution sent the Austria and Russian Empires into a tail spin. Ukraine, who was caught in the middle, became split and confused. Ukraine became a shell during this period, wallowing in her own anarchy and warfare. For a time, she was inward and did not talk to others much. After being defeated by Poland in her war for independence, she turned to her brother once again, who accepted her with open arms as the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic.
Life With Her Brother - The Soviet Union
When brought back to her brother's house, she found that he had changed considerably. As soon as she came to his house, she was forced to do labor in the fields. Russia insisted that he should own all the things she harvested. Ukraine did not like this one bit and refused to give him any at all. Russia's boss did not accept this fact and forced Russia to take action against his sister. Ukraine can still recall the face of horror Russia had when she was beaten. After this incident, Ukraine became very distant from her brother, only seeing him for business reasons. At the start of the World War 2, things became more turbulent. Germany invaded the USSR in 1941. Ukraine saw this as a turn for the worst. While under Germany's control, Ukraine was forced to do labor and if she stopped, worse things happened. After World War 2, she returned to Russia's house, and built military things for him.
The Incident
Russia had Ukraine working in one of his many nuclear power plants one day. During a routine check, there was a power surge and a then a steam explosion which caused another chemical explosion. Caught in the blast, Ukraine received major injuries. After waking from a month long coma, she had forgotten most everything about the past, all except for Russia and Belarus. The Soviet Union fell 5 years later and Ukraine declared independence in 1991.

I might try to make something like this for Latvia if you're all right with it.
