So I happened to be crossing the road this evening. Let it be known that I was crossing at an actual crosswalk, and had plenty of time to reach the other side ahead of the long-approaching car.
Nevertheless, the gentlemen within said car felt it imperative to express their great displeasure at my crossing the road way ahead of them and without any danger or requirement on their part to slow down. And thus, as they passed, the young men called out to me with repremands such as "MOVE, b***h!" and "GET OUT OF THE WAY!" with a few obscene sound effects thrown in for good measure.
My first thought was, "Silly college boys." I say first thought, but that was really as far as the train of thought went. I didn't turn, didn't flinch, may as well have been deaf for all my observable reaction.
But as they continued to drive and I continued to walk, another voice called out; the voice of a fellow pedestrian who was himself approaching the crosswalk and had heard the yelling.
"******** YOU, TOO!"
And it made me happy. Not that the drivers got cussed out. I really didn't care about the drivers, and I certainly didn't need to be avenged or anything, but somebody did get offended on my behalf. A part of me even thought "Aww, that was kinda gentlemanly of him." And then I laughed because I had considered somebody who would yell "********" really loud to be any sort of gentlemanly.
The end.
