My Journal of Fantasy
This is a collection of information I have gathered on creatures and things in legends and lore.
poinsettia
Today we are going to look at a flower that you see a lot of this time of the year. It also happens to be one of December's birth flowers. Today we are going to discuss Poinsettias.

Poinsettias represent celebration, success, reassurance, and good cheer. The are named after Joel Roberts Poinsett. He was the first United States Ambassador to Mexico. He introduced the plant to the US in 1825.

One legend explains how poinsettias became associated with Christmas. It is said that a child picked some weeds from the side of the road to offer to Christ for Christmas since she had nothing else to give. Because it was a humble gift given in love it was acceptable in God's eyes. As the weeds were brought into the church they bloomed into red and green flowers. The congregation felt that they had seen a Christmas Miracle.

Aztecs prized the flowers and considered them a symbol of purity. They also used them to make a dye and medicines. In Mayan folklore poinsettias were seen as divine beings.
