Chapter 1
The Great Unbalance
Chapter 1
The Great Unbalance
In the distant future, most of Japan is either dead, dying, or in isolation. A war rages over the dirt country, a war between humans and deadly creatures. This was has been going on for hundreds of years, but back then it was more like battles than a war. Only now has it exploded into something much greater, a war that will decide the fate of Japan and the entire world. A skinny, young girl in all black and short cloths holding a short sword, standing there with a hand on her hip. She had a smirk on her face as if she enjoyed what was going on. She had dark brown hair and emerald green eyes. Standing beside her was a male, slender and a bit muscular, seeming to be in his early adulthood years. He had light blond hair and deep blue eyes. On him was a forged steel glove and arm piece on his left arm with three blades on his knuckles. He stood there emotionless like, looking cold, heartless and death in his eyes. "Well Nakaga, this is it, the end of this war is coming soon." The girl said, still smirking. "Good, the sooner the better... Akiko." Nakaga said in a lifeless tone of voice. Akiko giggled, then nodded. "Let’s go see your friends, or what's left of them anyways." She said with a mischief giggle and started walking, expecting Nakaga to yell at her or walk with her and keep growling at her or something, but she hear no voices or footsteps. She stopped and looked back at Nakaga to see what he was doing, all she saw was him standing there, all still and with a blank face. "Okay... jeez... we don't have to see their dead bodies, but let’s leave this badland, look for new soil and start all over again. Maybe we could..." Akiko then stopped talking when she saw something wiggling like a limb from his chest, then she saw the whole that the thing was wiggling from. That’s when it hit her, Nakaga had been struck through and through by a tentacle arm. As the arm lashed around, it was ripping up his insides and making him bleed out like crazy. Akiko's eyes widen as she saw this and for some unknown reason, she couldn't move as Nakaga was dying right in front of her eyes. "Na-Nakaga!!!" Akiko yelled out as she grabbed her sword and charged at the tentacle monster, only to stop when Nakaga's body was lifted in the air and brought to the monster's mouth and then eaten. Akiko's mouth dropped when she saw this. "Oh GOD DAMN IT!" She shouted out in anger, gritting her teeth, she lunged forward and slashes at the beast, cutting it clean. The beast fell into two and lied there, bleeding out. "Great, it was a corrosive wurm... Nakaga is well dissolved by now." She said with disappointment. She walked away to a bag on the ground and took out a book that was filled with symbols and strange words. "Guess it’s time to go back in the past... oh dear god." She said with a sigh. She closed her eyes as blue mist lifted away from her body and then went in front of her, making a blue portal. She then opened her eyes and walked forward into the swirling blue hole into the space time congruent and disappeared as the hole closed. She stumbled around until she found another hole and walked through that one, finding herself in Japan again, back when everyone was alive and the earth was still green and livingly. "Oh man, it's been so long since I've seen such a nice world, creature free... but it will end soon, I just know it." She said, and then smiled. Meanwhile, on a airplane, Nakaga sat there looking at the seat in front of him and staying silent. Above him a speaker started and the captain spoke to the people on the plane in Japanese. "Well, if you look out your window, Tokyo is just below us. We will be landing in thirty minutes." After that message, the speakers turned off. Nakaga closed his eyes and laid his head back. 'Finally...' He thought. As soon as the plane landed and came to a complete stop, Nakaga, along with the others on the plane, got up and got his carryon bag, then exited the plane behind the others. Moments later he was out of the airport and he saw his pin pal, John Zoë. "Hey Nakaga! Glad to finally see you man!" John said as he waved. Nakaga smiled and waved back. "Hey John, it's good to see you too." Nakaga said softly. He walked over and saw that John had a car for them and inside was John's uncle. "Hey there Nakaga, I'll take you to your grandparent's house." He said without looking. Nakaga nodded to the man. "Thank you Mr. Zoë." And with that, John and Nakaga got into the car and they drove off.
"You’re going to love it here Nakaga. The people here are nice... most of the time, the places around are huge, and what other place than Japan to get the greatest mangas ever." John then smiled and put a hand behind his head like he was embarrassed. "I'm sorry; I really like to read all kinds of mangas." Nakaga smiled back at him. "No need to be sorry, I like mangas as well. I wish I could write one." John's smile widen as he heard that. "Dude, that would be so cool! If you do, I'll defiantly read it!" John said with excitement. "So you’re going to go to the school I'm going to, right?" Nakaga nodded at the question. "I believe so, might start tomorrow." After the drive and Nakaga said goodbye to John and his uncle, he walked up to the front door and knocked on it, waiting for the door to open. His Grandmother opened the door and smiled when she saw that it was her grandson. "Oh, it's so good to see you again Nakaga." She said as she hugged him. He hugged back, then let go after a moment. "It's great to see you too grandma." He said softly just as always. He then walked in and the door closed. Later that night after dinner, Nakaga was in his empty room, sitting on an air mattress and looking out the window. As he looked out the window, someone else was looking inside, it was Akiko. "And there he is, the savior." She said with a devilish smirk. Nakaga didn't notice her at first, but then he did and raised an eyebrow. 'Seems I'm being watched... but nothing to do about it now.' He thought, and then turned away from the window. Akiko giggled softly, and then walked away. 'See you tomorrow, young Nakaga.' She thought, and then she was out of sight. Nakaga, after a while, finally laid down and went to sleep. The next day came around and Nakaga woke up to the smell of eggs and bacon. "Ah, miles away from home and yet I feel like I've never left." He said as he got up and changed into what his school uniform would be, a blue with one white line going down from the top of his shirt to the bottom of his pants. Once he went into the kitchen and ate his breakfast, he started to think about the girl he saw last night, how she just stared at him. 'Who was she? Did she know me? It seemed like she was looking at me like she did know me. Have we met? Will I see her again?' He thought as he took a bit out of the bacon. 'Damn these are good as always.' He smiled as he finished eating. He got ready and waiting for his grandmother to get ready. "So, this will be your first day in your new school. Are you worried?" She asked him. Nakaga didn't say a word for a moment, then looked back at her. "Well, kinda..." He said softly. His grandmother smiled at him. "It’s natural to be worried, but you’re a nice grandson and the others will see that to. I'm sure that you won't have any problems with making friends. Plus you have John if anything that goes wrong." She said to insure him. Nakaga nodded, and with that they both walked out and into a van. They drove up to the new school named Kenshi Tora High School. Nakaga walked around the school as his grandmother signed him in. As he looked around, he saw a beautiful girl standing there with her hands behind her back and below her waist, holding hand to hand. She had long, black hair; she was as tall as Nakaga, which was fairly tall. Her skin was pale, but had some tone to it. She had a dress on that was white with a black belt around her waist, which was the girl's uniform. Nakaga stared at her for a moment, and then decided to walk up to her. "Hello?" He said soft and nicely. The girl turned to look at him with her sweet green eyes. "Oh, hello there. You must be new here. I'm Seshuka." She said with a smile. "I'm Nakaga, it’s a pleasure to meet you Seshuka." He said as he held out a hand for her to shake, smiling as well. She took his hand and shook it gently. They looked at each other in the eyes, still holding the other's hand. When they realized that they were staring at each other and still holding each other’s hand, they let go and looked away a little, Seshuka put her hand down in front of her and blushed softly, unnoticeable, and Nakaga put a hand behind his head, blushing as well. "Well... I should be going, hope we meet again." And with that, Nakaga walked back to the front of the school. Seshuka just stood there and watched him walk away, and then she smiled. She just met him and yet she liked him a lot. She figured that he liked her as well, but that was her guess. As she stood there, someone stood behind her, then got closer. "You know, he's going to be a handful." A female voice said. Seshuka jumped and turned around to see who it was. "Oh, don't scare me like that Akiko!" She said to Akiko. She smiled, then got a little closer to Seshuka. "Sorry, but it's hard not to do that to people." She said with a smile. Seshuka sighed softly, and then smiled. "So, You’re saying that Nakaga will be trouble?" She asked Akiko. Akiko nodded, and then grinned. "Much more trouble that you think, but he'll be ok for now, so enjoy him while the piece last." She said, looking away from Seshuka and looked at Nakaga. Seshuka tilted her head a little to the side. "What are you saying, 'Enjoy him'? What does that mean?" She asked her worriedly. Akiko giggled softly and walked away without giving an answer. Seshuka titled her head to the side again, confused. The bell rung for school to begin and Nakaga started walking to his first class, which was history. As Nakaga walked into class, he saw that only half the seats were filled. He saw his friend, John, and the girl that he met earlier, Seshuka. He walked over, giving them both a friendly wave and sat down beside them, being in the middle of them two. "So I see that you've met Seshuka." John said with a smile. Nakaga looked over at him and nodded. Seshuka smiled as well, wanting to say something, but she could, so she stayed quiet. Just a few rows behind the three of them was Akiko, sitting there with her elbows on the table and her head in her hands. 'I'll let him enjoy this moment for now.' She thought, smiling evilly. The bell rung again and class started, Nakaga wrote down everything that was being both said and written down on the board. John was just listening; he never saw any reason to write anything down since he can remember everything for weeks to come. Seshuka silently wrote down notes, but she was a little distracted, thinking about Nakaga and what she should do to tell him how she feels. 'But... we've just met each other... maybe he might think that I'm a weirdo and stay away from me. I can't let that happen.' She thought as she stopped writing. Nakaga looked over, seeing that Seshuka was worried about something. "Are you alright Seshuka?" He asked her softly. She snapped out of her thinking and looked over at Nakaga. "Um, yeah. I... I'm..." She started with a soft voice, blushing unnoticeable again. Before she could continue talking, the ground below them started to shake. 'And this is where we meet our first threat Nakaga.' Akiko thought as she grabbed her bag and searching for something inside. She then grabbed her short sword, but not pulling it out yet. The students inside the class started to panic because of the shaking. "What is going on? Earthquake?" One student asked. Nakaga got up and looked around, he somehow knew that this was no normal earthquake, and it wasn't an earthquake all together. John and Seshuka got a hold of their seats as it rumbled. The shaking went on for a few minutes, then just outside the windows, a giant beast burrowed out of the ground and shot into the sky, but its body was long so it was still in the ground as the head reached high into the sky. None of the kids in the class couldn't believe their eyes, none of them except for Akiko who was waiting for it to come. Nakaga stood there, then like instinct, he ran out of the room and out of the school, then up to the giant centipede looking monster. The monster looked at Nakaga as it towered over her. It then lashed out at Nakaga, but he jumped out of the way. As the monster lashed out again, it stopped in mid way down and started to bleed for some reason. "Well now, I nearly forgot that you reacted like that Nakaga." Akiko said with her sword out and in the monster. Nakaga looked at her with surprise, wondering what she was doing. “Don’t just stand there, beat this thing to death!” Akiko yelled out to Nakaga. He looked around and found a big, tough stick. He picked it up and charged at the beast, at the same time, Akiko got her sword out and concentrated on the sword. A red seal on the hilt glowed and the blade grew longer. As the beast went down to strike Nakaga, Akiko slashed her sword and sliced the giant beast in half. Blood gushed out of the cut and covered Akiko. “Oh yes, that was very lovely…” Akiko said sarcastically with a smirk. As the beast’s top half fell to the ground, Akiko could see that Nakaga was right behind it, he had wide eyes and a blank expression on his face. “Nakaga, I didn’t see you there… are you alright?” Akiko asked him, but Nakaga didn’t say a word back. Akiko tilted her head a little to the side and took a step forward, but when she did, blood shot from Nakaga’s torso and he fell to the ground in two pieces as well. “W-what! Nakaga!” Akiko yelled out as she ran over to him. “Oh GOD DAMN IT! Not again, and this time it’s my fault!” Akiko said in anger. She looked around and saw that no one was around. She took out her spell book and flipped through the pages. “Ok. I should have a spell in here to fix this… and thanks to that time traveling spell of mines, I’m nearly drained, so I can’t do that again.” She said, and then finally stopped on a page. “Here, rejuvenation, that should do it.” She closed the book, placed her hands on his cut and closed her eyes. As she did that, energy seeped out of her hand and into Nakaga’s body. As the energy went inside, his body glowed a purple color for a split second, then the skin and flesh started to stretch out and reattach to each other. In just a matter of seconds, he was whole again. “Alright, so body’s whole again… blood should be flowing since he wasn’t dead for a long time…” Akiko said worriedly. As she leaned in to see if he was alive, Nakaga thrusted up his hand to Akiko’s neck and lifted her back away from him. “What… are you…” Nakaga coughed out, looking, not mad, but more confused. He released his grip on her neck. Akiko stood up and looked at him with a surprised look on her face. “Well, that’s one way to thank someone who just saved you… sure I killed you… but that’s no reason to get mad.” She said with a sly smile. Nakaga scowled at her, but then looked away and stood up. He said no words, he didn’t look back at her, he just walked away back towards the school. Some of the other students came outside finally as they were sure that the creature was dead and they came up to Nakaga. “Are you alright Nakaga?” Seshuka asked him worriedly. “I’m fine, there’s nothing more to worry about.” Nakaga said softly to insure everyone. As the students talked and looked at the centipede monster, Akiko looked at them and smiled a devilish smile. ‘Well Nakaga, how did you like your first taste of the war? This was nothing, wait until the real threat senses your aura; this place… will turn into a true battlefield.’ She thought, and then started walking over to her classmates, keeping her eyes mostly on Nakaga. As she walked up, Nakaga finally looked back at her with narrow eyes, showing that he knew that this was only the beginning, but he didn’t know how he knew that. It was as if it was common knowledge to him, as if he was born with it.
