_-*Stairs to the Stars*-_

The Celestial People flock to the Stairs.
The People of the Stairs.*

Mikita-chan17

Prologue

Where are the Stairs?

Thousand of miles high into the sky, just barely within the Earth's atmosphere, is the first step of the Stairway. It is the home to thousands of creatures that are neither Angels or Mortals. They are the Celestials, and their quest is to forever live with the stars.
For all their life, they toil up the steep cliffs of the stair, only to succumb to tiredness, and jump off the stair way.

Chapter One

Free me from my bondage

Maricole's wrists were sore from all the years shackeled to his own thrown. How dare anyone try to stop him, for he was one of the most powerful beings you could lay eyes upon. Out of reflex, his wings stretched out, a magnificent sight to behold, but his wife reeled back in fear of being fatally damaged. Staring down upon his spouse, Maricole jumped off the thrown platform and glided down to Urra.
"So Urra, could you tell me if our clan had gotten one step higher to our beautiful homes in the stars. It has been over five hundred years since I was trapped. So tell me, how many more days until we're home?" Maricole looked her up and down, and he could tell that she was overflowing with fear of what would happen if she answered.
"Well? Am I ever going to get an answer?" he asked, actually quite gently. The sweetness in his voice just barely pushed Urra over.
"Sir Maricole of Ara, your clan has progessed seven steps up the stairs in these past years. That's more than what most clans do in fourteen hundred years, and we have-" Urra was cut off by Maricole smashing his hand down on the nearest table. It cracked, and split straight down the middle. Whimpering pathetically, Urra moved away.
Maricole was furious. 'Damn them all,' he thought, 'We went up seven steps ever one hundred years when I was there guiding them.' Both of his wings shot out of their place, the tips touching each side of Maricole's thrown room.
Then he was speeding through the halls, almost breaking the sound barrier. As he approached the front entrance, the large wooden door burst off their hinges, even before Maricole got there. In was a glorious sight; the energy of the stair flared up high around Maricole as he left the thrown house, white wings fully extended.
"Beautiful." Urra sighed. She had flown after Maricole, but her wings made her much slower than he. The elders had told her that she was in charge of Maricole once she unlocked his shackles. They also said the leader should've had a child by now. At the thought, Urra's cheeks turned a bright shade of silver, for the blood of a Celestial is white.
The Ara clan gathered around Maricole, a bit surprised their leader was no longer crazy. "Our progress up the steps is too slow! A step a year, a hundred steps a Celestial year," Maricole yelled to his peoples. No, change that; their leader was still crazy! An uproar was raised. Never could they do this impossible feat. At the moment, it took them a Celestial year to go up one step.
Frightened, Urra covered herself up the best she could with her wings, then grabbed Maricole by both wing joints. Suddenly, his wing snapped back in place, and he became limp, like a rag doll. Still terrified Maricole would damage her, Urra dragged him back to his thrown. All the way, he screamed and cursed her vile soul.
"Let me go! Damn you, Urra, you go too slow. We must speed up as I said!" Poor Urra couldn't do anything to stop his yells.
Taking a deep breath, Urra replied quietly, "We must all do what is best for the cl-... Must do what is best for the clan." A wave of nausea washed over her. Her own words stung and reminded her of what she must do; she was still brooding over the clan heir business. She was an idiot for marrying her only blood relative, especially since he was the leader. It would feel so wrong.
Perhaps for the first time in his entire life, Maricole noticed that Urra was upset about something. Not out of love for his wife, but concern for his younger cousin, he wrapped his arms around her waiste and swayed gently. Her hand slipped from his wings, so he also put his wings around her. "Uura~Ourra," he asked, just as he did when they were both children, "You've covered your face in sadness. You look ugly when you do that." Maricole was still a child at heart, so a teasing tone entered his voice.
Tears poured over, and Urra began to sob violently. Marilcole snapped his wings back in place and backed away a bit. He thought this was all his fault. It really wasn't, but he thought it was.
