Book 1: Chapter 1:
The Dream

Cries of laughter rang out from a nearby Victorian mansion, as a little girl was playing with her two best friends out in the back courtyard. They happened to be playing with roughly hewn wooden swords, hand carved by the little boy who, in some strange turn of events found himself at the mercy of two pirate lasses aboard the dreaded pirate ship, The Bloody Rose. Somehow the girls had outwitted him, and drove the boy out onto the gangplank hovering over the churning ocean waters below. The boy had to think fast if he was going to get out of this one alive, for if he failed now, the vicious shark below would surely eat him alive! But just then, someone shouted out in the distance, another female? Then it came again.
"Children? Quit playing around the Koi pond!"
The smaller of the two girls looked over to the woman who called out, and saw it was her families nanny. She let out an exasperated sigh, and handed her sword over to the boy, saying "This happens every time I try to have fun, doesn't it?"
The nanny heard this, and replied "Well get used to it. You live in a wealthy family, and you are going to act like it, and not like some hoodlum from the alleys! Now would you children please come inside and wash up? It's almost time for dinner." She turned on her heel and went back inside to go about her usual duties.
"Arrgh, maybe next time Capp'n Amadeo!" the taller girl said when the door closed behind the nanny. "No, I don't think there will be a next time. My parents are going to travel somewhere next week, but I think they heard me outside their door last night, because they stopped talking all of a sudden when I got up to their door." the smaller girl said.
Amadeo. She was much smaller than most of the children her age, but the most tomboyish. Even most of the other boys avoided her because they usually ended up with a bloody nose because they said something about her height. She hated wearing dresses for the most part, but didn't have a lot of choice as of late while her parents were at home, but somehow always got away with wearing an old pair of amber aviator goggles her great grandfather once gave her a long time ago. Her three best friends in the town were two boys and a girl. The boy in her home today, Owl as he called himself, was only two years older than the girl, Qote, and four years older than Amadeo, and usually came over with small contraptions and gizmos he and Qote had made together to entertain Amadeo. He liked to wear a medium length white long coat that he roughly cropped himself to 'the perfect length' as he once said. Qote on the other hand, she loved to act out adventures, craft delicate instruments of all sorts, and usually was the one who assembled all of the devices that Owl made up. She also wore pants a lot, much to the dismay of the adults in town, and today was no exception, though she wore them under her skirt. The other boy, who went by the name of Esqall, he was a bit of a mystery. He was quite a bit older looking than, and only slightly more muscled than Owl, and had hollow, emotionless eyes. He usually wore a leather mask to hide his face, and dressed in strange Western clothes. He also has a small wolf pup, who in comparison to it's owner, had a demented look, and was really ragged looking. The four children have always dreamed of the outside world, which they only caught glimpses of through their windows at home. Their favorite sights were the airships that happened to pass through the skies from time to time, and they all vowed that when they grew up, they would buy an airship of their own, and set sail to far away lands for adventure. But first they had to eat dinner, then the two child visitors needed to get home before dark, so they wouldn't get in trouble with the Bobbys that patrolled the streets from time to time at night. All three of them went inside and washed up for dinner, then when they were done, said their goodbyes and left for home. Owl accompanied Qote to her home first, then headed home himself.
That night though, none of the children got a lot of sleep, for they were kept awake by strange and frightening visions shortly after they closed their eyes.
