Things in Haiti are looking pretty bad. Apparently a lot of the government members and police are missing or dead, so there's real fear of collapse into anarchy. Normally, we'd coordinate with their government and the UN folks already in country, but a lot of those people are dead or missing, making it harder to get help where it's needed. Their president is homeless and lucky to be alive. They lost most of their hospitals and clinics. We've starting sending aid, but there's very little infrastructure we can use for distribution, especially to the more rural upland communities. Canadian and Icelandic help are already arriving as well. This is the country in the Western hemisphere that could least afford another disaster, and is one of the poorest in the World.
