Nyxali froze.
She stared at the shadowy figure in the reflection. He blinked slowly at her and backed out her door.
For a heartbeat, she continued to look at the now empty reflection of her room. Then, she whirled around and lept across to her door. She yanked it open and glared into the empty hallway. She heard her father's voice. "Did you let her know you were here?" He paused for a moment before responding, "Good. She'll be down soon."
Nyxali's mouth curled into a silent snarl. Her tail flicked angrily as she abruptly turned back into her room and slammed the door. Immediately, she began pacing. They thought she'd just come at their beck and call, just because they sent some... male up into her room. Who did he think he was anyway? Barging in like he had the right? Her tail swished - knocking things over and slapping into furniture. She was growling low in her chest. Her eyes kept returning to her door. His scent still lingered in her room, but it was strongest there.
She stopped pacing and stared at the offending space. It seemed to beckon her. Ever so slowly, she stepped towards the door. Each step poised to run back into a far corner if need be. She inhaled deeply as she gingerly entered the contaminated area. It was a pleasant smell - warm, kind of like the smell of the woods on a sunny autumn day when the sun heated the fallen leaves. She loved those days - to hang in the tree branches and sleep in the crisp fall air while the sun toasted her fur lightly.
Nyxali shook herself from her reverie.
Well, that settled it. She knew she was going to go down there now. She had to know who these visitors were and why they were here. She hated it when her parents were right.
She tentatively opened the door and slipped silently into the hallway. There was a quiet murmur of conversation, but Nyxali was focused on being silent rather than listening. She wanted to peek down the stairs before going down - just to see what she was getting into. She crept to the edge of the stairs and laid on her stomach to peer down. The black cat's eyes met hers.

Someday everyone will figure out that God (or Name you use) is in every single one of us - and we're hurting Him in His name more than we should.
