Chapter one: The country of Vietnam's background

Ever since 1858 Vietnam has been under conquest. Though its first conquest was succeeded in 1884 by the french, and as a result if became part of the french Indochina in 1887. Finally, after World War II Vietnam had declared its independence, but was still ruled by the french until 1954 when it had defeated the communist forced that were under the control of Ho Chi Minh. In 1954 Vietnam was divided into a communist north and an anti-communist south. Through the 1960's the American economic, and military aid had grew while providing aid to south Vietnam.
However, this was an attempt to bolster the government of America, but the US armed forced to withdraw in 1973 following a cease-fire agreement. Eventually, North Vietnamese forces had taken over south Vietnam and Vietnam was reunited under communist rule. Even thought the country is in peace, for over the decade the country had experienced very little economic growth. The cause of this was the conservative leadership policies, the persecution, and the mass exodus of individuals, and many of them were successful south Vietnamese merchants. This had become a growing international isolation.
In 1986 the enactment of Vietnam's “doi moi” caused the Vietnamese authorities to have committed to increased economic liberalization and enacted sever reforms that were needed to modernize the economy. This was a way to produce a more competitive, and export-driven industries. At the current moment the country still continues to experience small protests and the vast majority of the groups that protest are the majority to use land-use issues. There is a lock of equitable mechanisms for resolving the disputes. Many of the ethnic minorities are the Montagnards of the central highlands, and the khmer from the krom in the southern delta region.
Vietnam is located in southeastern Asia. It borders the gulfs of Thailand, tonkin, and the south china sea.
