Chapter 2: Introducing Class "Scavenger"

Hours passed and finally we were able to return to where he had hidden the talisman, i hadnt sensed any demons around for a while, but i kept my guard up since i was marked as a traitor now, nevermind they wouldnt waste any time in killing me in the first place, if i had or had not been pulled up and forced to sign a contract with this human. I sat atop the roof of an adjoining building focusing on the gauntlet that lay clasped about my wrist. I gnawed at the metal, as if that was to loosen it, all it did was make my teeth sore. Out of anger i slammed my arm into the metal roof of the building, attempting to break the gauntlet, half expecting it to work.
"Woahh!!.." I let out a startled cry as i almost tumbled into the building, a crash where my arm had shattered the metallic frame only allowed the still quick momentum of my hand to almost pull my body in after it. When my arm got stuck in the metal, quite deeply, i began to get annoyed.
"One thing after another today, today..." I let out a grunt of strength as i wrenched my hand free from the wreckage i had created. I looked around, noticing how destroyed most of the buildings and homes had been after the outbreak, only hours after the portal opened.
"...just isnt my day..." I finished, scratching my head knowing that for 'some' reason, this stupid human was going to make me help 'him' fix 'his' mistake. This bracelet that stubbornly hung around my wrist just went to prove i was bound to be this man's guard dog until he saw fit to release her. I groaned a bit, sniffing the air and tilting my chin to sense the approach i could tell wasnt that far away. After my senses pieced together what was coming our way i jumped from the roof and went into the building's entrance that i had seen the man go into just moments before.
"HEY!! human!! i suggest we get a move on!!...we got some company headed our way and it doesnt seem to have the best intentions in mind....hm?...human!!" I cried out once more before entering the building further, hearing no response other then my own echo. I could sense the demon's approach and sighed softly, it wasnt that strong, the scent of cigarettes touched me first before i could catch his scent.
"Human..." I said, turning a corner to greet the man i had been tailing, a hand at my hip, but he didnt turn to greet me.
"...Human!" I repeated.
"...I have a name" He responded, with an uncaring tone i had not recognized before as 'cold'.
"So?...I have a tattoo, both of which are not necessary information..." I responded with a hiss in my voice, i stopped when i saw him going through the folders, and drawers of this mostly intact room.
"...What are you looking for?" I asked out of curiosity.
"...I thought anything involving me was unnecessary information..." he quickly responded with a victorious smirk, blowing out a puff of smoke as he searched. My silence marked my loss in this battle of wits, but after a moment more of silence, he seemed to break in.
"...You'll see what i have planned...just gotta give me some trust or this partnership wont get very far until we both get killed." He said pointing to the gauntlet that lay clasped on his opposing arm. I looked away, i was almost guilty for how cold i was, but the feeling of shame he caused me, only made my hatred for him grow.
"...Whatever you have planned, put it into action soon, the demon is almost here..." I said, stepping to the side as he slipped on a glove in the darkness of the room. Curiously i crossed my arms, allowing him full roam of the stage.
"...Im not as weak as you seem to think..." He said, his fingertips sparked once before the demon burst through the door at him, the demon was faster then I had expected and moved to stop him, but hesitated a moment after the demon attacked the human, I, for some reason felt he would be able to handle himself against a demon of this calibur.
I was right, as if my brother Seimei had been in the room, electricity sparked so brightly as his hands connected with the demon's screaming body, it trembled and blistered with heat of electrical burns searing him. When the human's hands left the demon's corpse I heard the clatter of the demon's dead body fall to the ground, and a scent of burning flesh that scorched my nose.
"Very good human.." I said with the clap of my hands as he triumphantly brushed off his shoulders, but he turned to me when i once again called him 'human' and seemed quite annoyed.
"...My name is Yomolu...call me by name..." he said again, but i ignored this, only taking in his name for consideration for but a moment before turning my attentions back to the task at hand. My head turned as i listened for more demons that would approach them. Scavengers were on their way already for the many rotting corpses in the area, but, i was pulled from my thoughts when the pressure and slight zap touched the back of my head. Turning my head quickly i jumped back, hissing at the human's insolence.
"...Its called Data Zap, it helps me go through memories using electric-" Started Yomolu, two fingers had been lifted to press on her head, apparently to read her.
"Listen! i dont care what the hell you can do! stay the ******** out of my personal business, i dont know anything that you gotta know, and vice versa, other then where the hell you put the DAMN talisman!" I cried out, i was so angry i saw red, my senses told me to fight him, hurt him, hit him, but the gauntlet on my wrist shocked me in warning not to give into my desires. I pointed to my headdress, two eyes opened, scanning him, one red, one blue, both of which were alive and moving.
"I already have Mind reading covered...now you just keep outta my way and we'll get along very well" I said angrily as i walked ahead, my hands on my hips and obviously angered by his bravery to approach someone as high up as me. He just scoffed and followed after me, shaking his head a bit as he smirked, removing the cigarette from his mouth to speak he said.
"..well, i dont read minds...i read the 'body history' what its done, when, where....i know about how you sleep with your a** in the air..." He said with his clever and cocky attitude that i had begun to associate with him.
"Hey!! Of all my 'history' you can go by you pluck out that single time?! Listen! i was Drunk, Tired...and just want to forget everything..." I said softly, i lowered my gaze a moment, not even noticing the gentle blush that had crossed my features.
"..Come on, we need to go...grab the talisman and let's get out of here!" I ordered, the scavengers were getting closer, his question came as a surprise to me, i hadnt expected him to acknowledge me more then necessary.
"...What are these Scavengers anyway....if they eat living creatures, wouldnt that make them predators?" He asked, he did however pick up his walking speed, going into his office he opened the safe he had placed the talisman in, it was still in pretty good shape and i was relieved for this. While he knelt by the safe to open it i began my proud explanation, i closed my eyes and crossed my arms triumphant to have someone to explain this to.
"...One would think!...however, these creatures dont hunt, one could walk right by you and think nothing of it, however, the scent of rotting meat draws them in swarms, it sends them into a frenzy, even if they arent hungry they will kill and devour anything in its path, they are known to eat until their stomachs explode, leaving more meat for the others to eat....they're nasty creatures..." I said, finishing with a shudder, the Scavengers in hell were like the insects of earth, they were weak on their own, but in the swarms that they spread, they could take down very strong opponents. Their screeches marked they were close and also marked my exit of the area.
"...got it" He finally responded, after what seemed to be an eternity of waiting, slipping the talisman into his pocket i grabbed him by the hand and went back toward the exit at a brisk run. When i exited the building, my long wings already appearing out of the darkness of shadows surrounding me i slammed them back with great force, sending me and the human named Yomolu up into the skies. His added weight caused my flight to be jarred at first, but for only a moment. The scent of humans filled my nose as i looked off into the destroyed city.
"...you're not the last surviving human...there's more.." Looking down i noticed a black swarm of creatures, screeching in response to the rotting flesh, and cackling like a grotesque hyena as they scraped and writhed along the ground like oversized ants. About the size of a dog they had two wings, both of them unable to produce flight, and almost always were used as another set of legs, they had two arm-like legs in the front and slithered with a snakelike tail in the back. They scurried along the ground at an almost alarming pace and they usually had a sort of skull look to their faces, gnashing teeth jutting from a skinless mouth, and a single yellow eye focusing on whats ahead and only ahead, two horns protruded from the skull, although it never is used as a weapon due to their brittleness.
"..those are Scavengers..." I said, looming over them, they couldnt fly, we were safe for now, I effortlessly held Yomolu above the swarm, noticing their path had actually been going toward where i had sensed the humans, tilting my head slightly i repeated.
"...those are Scavengers...and they're heading for the other humans....Hope they learn how to fly..." I added in carelessly, flying toward the nearest tall building to land on until the swarm would end, but i could tell Yomolu was thinking about the humans i had mentioned, and the dropping feeling in my stomach only caused me to suspect i would be forced to save these humans as well....Exactly what i had 'wanted' to do...

... I remember this part. eek

You're still switching from first person to third. I can understand though.
Switching from posts to story format must be tricky. The story seems more organized, as opposed to the old thread.
    Overall, nice! heart
