ok heres the gig people say that master chief is dead
he isn't u know in the last mission movie the frigate crashes? thats only half of the frigate the other bit didn't make it through the portal
since the frigate was cut in half masterchief was in the back half so he didn't make it he put himself into cryo sleep until the others find him
like the Halo Reach spartan guy says: Spartans don't die.... there just missing in action..... smile
