A Touch of History
This will mostly contain history stuff.
* On further consideration, I'm linking this post RM made in response to someone doing a big rant on how they hate the whole hyphenated American thing: http://rm.livejournal.com/1879931.html

* It disgusts me that Glen Beck is desecrating and co-opting Dr. King's memory. It's queasy making.

* RM found: A cool Pride moment thing: http://naytinalbert.blogspot.com/2010/06/i-hugged-man-in-his-underwear-and-i-am.html

"Reconciliation is more painful; it’s more difficult. Reconciliation forces one to remember the wrongs committed and relive constant pain. Yet it’s more powerful and transformational because two parties that should not be together and have every right to hate one another come together for the good of one another, for forgiveness, reconciliation, unity."

* According to the Republicans, we don't need unemployment benefits as "There are plenty of jobs out there." Really? Are they looking at the same economic figures I am?

* No really, Conservatives, we don't hate Palin and other right wing women because they are beautiful. For us, it's about policy and disconnect, not ogling. Grow up, please.

* Also, Republicans, it's not unfair that people in deep poverty don't pay taxes. Asking people to be homeless so you can squeeze an extra pittance out of them is a lot more onerous than taking an extra fraction from someone who has more than they could ever possibly need.

* I am not sanguine about what happens as Alex hits the BP Oil Spill.

* (RM found) "Preventing Homosexuality (and Uppity Women) in the Womb?" That's some serious bullshit right there: http://www.thehastingscenter.org/Bioethicsforum/Post.aspx?id=4754&blogid=140

That's treating women with experimental drugs in the hopes it would prevent homosexuality, bisexuality, alternate gender expression, and non-stereotypically female career choices. I'm left pretty much speechless.

* I see Jim DeMint is preventing the committee investigating the Spill from having Sub Peona powers. After all, it's in the republicans best interests to prevent BP from experiencing any consequences from the disaster they caused. "Party of responsibility" my a**.

* Today I wept over footage of dying whales and dolphins.

* For someone who grew up during the last days of the cold war, the current Russian spy scandal is just surreal.

* I'm feeling generally crappy, but the pain is so much better today. I'm hoping I'll only need the pills for sleep. Fingers crossed folks.

* John Beaner has compared the financial crisis to an ant as part of his argument that we don't need banking regulation. The degree of out of touch here scares me.

* Snerk (I have reven done the equivalent of that with my players now and then over the years): http://www.dorktower.com/images/comics/DorkTower840.gif

* I wonder what happened to my LOTR Aragorn/Arwen replica pemdant. I should probably poke around when I'm more bendy.

* Last night I dreamed I was driving a fragile, closeted old man to see his dieing lover in California. It was quietly heartbreaking.

* crotalus_atrox found: a thing on what's wrong with the airbender movie: http://splinterend.tumblr.com/post/749364670/facepainting

* Dude! "Elena Kagan Grilled on Critical Judicial Matter of Edward vs. Jacob": http://www.movieline.com/2010/06/elena-kagan-grilled-on-critical-judicial-matter-of-edward-vs-jacob.php?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

There is footage!

* At least three of you linked to the Ebert review of the aweful Airbender mess. The review is amusingly scathing: http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20100630/REVIEWS/100639999
