It took you three whole hours to finally find the right address, but as you approached the gigantic house, you realized the hand-embroidered letter that was sent to you could only be from such a lavish estate. Three days ago, you received said letter in your door, telling you a date, a location, and only giving one solid instruction- "Come Alone." Normally, such an invitation would strike fear into the hearts of many. After all, who would come alone to a location unfamiliar to themselves? But... you had a strange feeling everything's be alright. And that's why you came.
As you approached the double-oak doors at the front of the estate, you looked up at the expansive wall that was the side of the house. Damn, you thought, whoever lived here was loaded. Before you could reach out to knock, a butler opened the door from the inside and led you in. As he shut the door behind you, your eyes gazed across the lobby. What a view! Double marble staircases and an assortment of plush couches simply put out to welcome guests! You wanted to look around a little more, but the butler, seeing the invitation in your hand, firmly instructed you to go up the staircase and down the hallway.
As you followed the directions of the gentleman, you reached the room he was talking about. Slowly, you pushed on the door and looked around the room. It had to be a study of some sort- There were shelves stacked against the walls lined with every kind of book imaginable. A soft 'woah' escaped your lips as you walked in, seeing a desk in the middle of the study with two chairs in front of it, a tiny TV set upon the desk with a flashing icon for "pause" across the top of the screen. It was almost like a video that they played after a funeral to those who had something in the deceased's will. Did someone die?
As you sat down in one of the comfy chairs, you found the remote to play the video was built into the arm of your chair. 'Cool'. You pressed play and instantly the darkened screen came to life.
Before you, an eighteen year old boy sat in the same chair that was now pushed in behind the desk the TV was sitting on. He was dressed formally- A suit, white shirt and a deep red tie. His hair was blond and unkempt and, as the video started, he pushed it out of his eyes, revealing two deep pools of bright blue.
"Ladies and Gentlemen." The boy said. "My name is Isaac. You may know my by a few of my alias', HighWolf or Toya. They, let me clarify, are all me." They boy smiled at the camera and leaned in forward, looking more directly into the lens. "I have brought you here to speak with you, indirectly of course, about a certain subject matter that is most compelling to me. You see, everyone..." The boy stood up and turned to face a window behind him. you could tell from the angle of the lens the boy was very tall. "There is a very important matter I must discuss with you all. If you are watching this video, it is because you have some manner of involvement in the death of one of my closest kin." 'What?' You instantly though. 'I Haven't killed anyone!"
The boy turned to face the camera again. "It has nearly been two years since his death. For some time, he came back to me as a ghost of his former self, and again left this world." The boy looked back out the window, an aura of sadness emanating from his turned back. "When I first took on my alias- My new life... There was another. There was a mentor much more skilled than me in every single construct of being." The boy continued on, his voice getting more serious as his words kept coming. "There is no doubt you have spies watching my every move, mentor... and I pray some day you will pus aside the differences and join me once again."
The boy came back to his seat and looked deeply in the camera. An utter silence came across the video.
"Clyde." For a moment, your mind is lost. Do you know anyone named Clyde? How did he die? But, the boy went on.
"Clyde, I know we have had our differences in the past. I know we've gone through more hell in a friendship than most people have gone through in a relationship. And the fact that it come to such an abrupt end, well..." The boy relaxed into the back of the chair. "I miss my old friend. Look around the room... Remember when we used to tell each other how rich we'd be? How amazing we were going to be when we got this powerful? And all the times we talked about furry conventions and fursuits..." He shook his head, smiling.
"You know... since I met you, I've taken on your aspirations. They remained unfulfilled quests in my mind forever. And now, look at me... I've lived out both of our lives. I've been to conventions. I even have a fursuit now." He smiled and turned to the screen again. "But, after all these months? I've never forgotten. And do you know why?"
Suddenly, a picture of Toya flashed across the screen, the black star under his right eye more than evident.
"That star, Clyde. That star symbolizes the influence you had in my creation and my rise. Without you, I would still be lost on Gaia, looking for answers that no one wanted to answer. I would still be naive and curious about people. But, Clyde- You were the one who taught me how to act, how to behave, how to BE a furry. You were the one who started me going and made it impossible for me to stop. And now... look at me." He outstretched his arms and laughed. "I have made friends who, unlike you, don't ask for my money, don't tell me I'm wrong, don't rub things in my face, and don't make me their b***h." He laughed again.
"But you know, what, Clyde? I wouldn't have traded our time together for the world. It was because of you that I did everything I did. It was because of your help and your constant emotional beatings that I became who I am today. You shaped me into who I am, Clyde. For that, I thank you." He slowly bowed to the camera.
"For those of you watching who were her by invitation, I thank you. If you've watched this far without stopping, please see my secretary or send me a letter in the form of a Personal Message regarding your watching this video and you will be rewarded in the form of gold."
The screen darkens for a moment and you think the video is over. Slowly, you get up, more confused than you were when you arrived, but before you have a chance to leave the room, the video comes back on.
"Clyde, my friend. I will never forget you and I will pray someday we will meet again and the circumstances of our meeting will be more than jubilant. I hope you have not forgotten me, old friend, because you live on in my memory every single day."
