Chapter One: Trouble at the Temple
"Noooo!"
Frantic footfalls soon could be heard as they echoed loudly against the rippling marbled walls that held the Temple of Time together. The sound of glass breaking and strings of ananomically impossible curses soon filled the air as four women appeared in the main hall in flashes of green, silver, orange and blue light. The two youngest of the four, twins in everything except hair and eye color, one having platinum blonde hair and silver eyes while the other possessed strawberry blonde hair and orange eyes, exchanged glances before flashing back out in a swirl of silver and orange. The remaining two, a girl with inky black hair and amused forest green eyes and an older brunette with striking blue ones, exchanged glances before the brunette smirked and flashed out in a shower of blue bubbles. Standing alone and wearing a mask of grim determination, the inky haired woman began making her way through the blank rippling marbled halls towards the sound of shattering glass and obscenities that would make even the vilest of people wince in shame.
Coming to a stop in front a large and well worn wooden door, the inky haired woman flinched as it suddenly shot open to reveal her crimson haired twin. Pausing just inside the door, she tracked the other woman’s movement as she picked up and threw another glass vase against the rippling wall, only for it to shatter before reappearing in a different location completely unharmed. "This can't happen, I won't allow it!" The redhead exclaimed before kicking out with her foot and connecting with one of the five short pillars that the room housed, each a different color and holding up a small basin, before giving a pained yelp and jumping around on one foot while glaring daggers at the pillar. Having seen enough of her twins childish behavior without some sort of explanation, the inky haired woman cleared her throat to get the others attention.
Whipping around, the crimson haired woman growled before loudly responding. "You! Tell me you had nothing to do with this Cassandra or by the Gods, I'll make your eternity Hell!" Raising an eyebrow at the rather harsh greeting, Cassandra replied, her voice giving away her confusion. "I had nothing to do with what ever happened." Seeing the dark look her twin was sending her, she held up her hands in the universal sign of surrender and watched as the dangerous fires burning behind the other woman’s emerald eyes slowly dimmed. "Now are you going to tell me what happened or just throw accusations at me?" Watching as the crimson haired woman hung her head and turned away from her in shame; she made her way towards her sister and gently placed a hand on her forearm before softly guiding her back around. "Rayne, what happened?"
A moment of silence hung in the air between them as Rayne's expressions shifted slightly before she motioned towards the pillar she had kicked. "Take a look." Peering at the sorrowful look painted on her twins face, she let go of Rayne's arm and took a few steps towards the blood red pillar and peeked into the water filled basin as varies scenes played out before her.
A blonde woman, in her early twenties, is sitting closely to a smaller redheaded woman on a bench in front of what looks to be a college building. Their subtle touches and secret smiles hinting at their shyness to public affection. The scene soon shifted to the two entwined in a bed, both smiling as they basked in the afterglow of a passionate love making session. The blonde gently running her fingers through the redheads shoulder length locks as she softly hums her responses to the redhead who is speaks excitedly about one subject or another. Neither of the two paying any noticing to the small sparks of blue coming from the blonde's fingers and swirling together with the forest green ones coming from the redhead.
Soon another scene is played, this time staged in a dark room lit only by a string of white christmas lights. Both women are sitting across from each other in a ring of pillows, the redhead looking intensely focused as she studied the blondes lips move as she speaks. A gently shake of the blondes shoulders suggests that she had been laughing at something, before stilling once she realized the redheads attention is else where. Waving her hand in the redheads face, she is rewarded when the other woman blushes hotly and began to speak with wild gestures at the raised eyebrow she recieves.
The scenes began to shift again, one shoving the other aside as it showed the progression of the two's relationship before stopping on one that did not include the redhead. The blonde is sitting outside in a park next to a younger brunette, both indulging in a cone of ice cream as they watched the people that strayed into their line of sight. Grinning mischievously, the brunette asked the older blonde a question and laughs as the blonde gaps at her before her cheeks began to burn hotly as she blushed and ducked behind a curtain of blonde hair. Seeing the reaction she had received, the brunette cheekily sticks her tongue out at the blonde before standing and patted the older woman on the shoulder. The moment her hand touched the blondes shoulder, a spark of yellow light leaves the brunettes hand and collids with the green-blue sparks that dance together around the blonde. Slowly but surely, the green-blue sparks that once glowed so brightly, begin to dim as the yellow light covers and stills them. The color exchange once again goes unnoticed by either parties.
Jerking her inky head away from the basin, Cassandra spun around and was greeted by a nervous Rayne. "You saw it too, didn't you?" The crimson haired woman’s face fell as her question was clearly answered in Cassandra’s expression. Rayne's left hand came up and tugged on a lock of crimson colored hair as her facial expression shifted back to the earlier rage. "That shouldn't have happened." She spoke, her voice filled with anger as she began to pace. "The girl we saw wasn't supposed to exist!" Tugging violently on her hair, she whipped around before loosening her hold on her hair and picking up another glass vase. Closing her eyes, she held the vase in her right hand before chucking it against the wall. "She wasn't supposed to be anywhere!" Clenching her hands into fists she pressed her knuckles against her forehead as she spoke. "The Key wasn't supposed to be human because of its instability, she severed the bond between one of our more powerful chosen pairs. I told the Monks I would send them to Hell in a hand basket if they even thought about doing something this stupid and I don't even get the satisfaction of doing that because they sacrificed their blood in the name of the Key!"
Cassandra frowned as this bit of information was revealed to her, "Just their blood?" Seeing the seething look on her sister’s face, she grimaced as she reluctantly gave the Monks props on being completely thorough. "No, they sacrificed their blood, spirit, heart, and mind along with their body to the damn thing. I hate to admit that I was out foxed, but they seriously thought this through and achieved oblivion. We have no way of calling them forth for Judgment over this catastrophic error on their part." Breathing out a sigh of annoyance, Rayne crossed her legs and sat down on the pale blue marble that made up the floor before speaking softly. "We need to call the others and discuss what can be done to salvage this particular effort." Leaning her head down into her hands, Rayne stilled for a moment before looking back up at Cassandra. "That reminds me, I felt you all here earlier but only you approached me." Green eyes darkened as the crimson haired beauty took on a look of concentration only to be broken out of it by Cassandra. "Don't bother; they left shortly after they heard you breaking things. I think Luna and Solaris have finally become cautious of you after the last time they showed up while you were breaking things and you threw a chair at Luna's head and a pot at Aris's." A soft hint of teasing lined her voice as she watched Rayne cross her arms over her chest and look offended. "They started it!" Tilting her head at the defensive tone her sister used, Cassandra sighed and fluidly sat down beside her pouting sister and wrapped an arm around her. "I'm sure they did, seems they have an impulse control issue."
Rayne dropped her head into her hands, her shoulders relaxing as she took in the quiet and comforting presence of her sister before it was shattered by her own voice. "We should call them soon before the situation spirals out of control even more." Turning her head to the side, she caught her sisters gaze before grudgingly leaving her comforting embrace and standing. Holding her right hand out in front of her with her palm facing the blue marbled floor, she spoke firmly, her voice indicating that the phrase was well used and practiced. "By the right as the Guardian of Blood and Keeper of the Temple of Time. I, Rayne Second of the Five Pillars of Magic do summon my sister Pillars to the Temple of Time. As it is spoken, so shall it be received." Flipping her hand over, her palm began to glow softly before a bright purple flash expanded over her hand, leaving behind a golden outline of a teardrop.
Glancing at Cassandra she eyed the golden Hourglass as it appeared on her right palm and smiled briefly before a shower of silver and orange sparks appeared before separating and forming into the twins from before. Platinum blonde hair shook as it dislodged a couple of bright orange sparks before shooting her strawberry blonde haired twin a look of annoyance. "Don't look at me Luna; she's the one who bounced us mid travel." The strawberry blonde pointed towards Rayne before quickly retracting her hand and putting a bit of space between herself and the unamused redhead. "Thanks, it’s always a pleasure to see you too Solaris." Rayne responded dryly as she waited for their last arrival while Luna gently traced her golden marks with her fingertips. "You haven't summoned us officially in a while Ray." Silver eyes raised and caught the forest green ones that belonged to Rayne's twin, as her fingertips continued to trace the three evenly spaced wavy lines that glowed softly on her palm. Smiling slightly a the silver eyed blonde, Cassandra motioned towards the blood red pillar that belonged to Rayne and watched as the younger woman snagged her twins arm before dragging her over to it.
Throwing a glance over her shoulder at Cassandra leading the younger set of twins towards her basin, Rayne ran a hand through her crimson locks as she waited patiently for the last arrival. A small formation of blue bubbles soon came into existence across from her before grouping together into one big bubble and popping to reveal a smiling woman a bit older then herself with long chocolate brown hair and sapphire-blue eyes. "Hullo Rayne are you finally taking me up on my offer?" Shaking her head, Rayne smiled back before greeting her. "Sorry Hope, but this isn't a social call." Watching as the older woman’s smiled faded slightly; she bit her lip before speaking again. "Maybe after we’re done?" Breathing a sigh of relief as Hope's smile returned, she led the brunette towards the others and passed her off to Cassandra, who in turn took her to the blood red pillar and the basin that held the reason for their gathering.
