Reflection


Unkempt and unshaven, he sat on the bed, letting the stereo blare loudly into his ears that nested against his matted and filthy hair. From deep inside his body, his stomach howled in pain and his mouth panted in thirst, but he paid no attention. He hadn't in a long time. He stared up at the cracks in the ceiling, watching the leaves' shadows play with the sun's long hair, darting in and out through the strands that had happened to fall into his line of sight.
The speakers blared through what might have been a quiet afternoon. He smiled softly. This had been their song. Her silky strawberry blonde curls and her bright shining eyes flashed briefly before him. The sweetend memories passed through his head one by one, and brought tears to his eyes. He remembered the smile, the little eccentricities of her personality. But then he remembered the accident. the headlights zigzaging, leading the vehicle,and the blood, oh god the blood...
He pulled his feet up to his chest and buried his face, twisting a crimson rose between his fingertips. A single red drop from the rose fell without a sound to the cold floor. Arms wrapped protectively against his knees he sat, wishing, hoping, that everything could go back to how it had been. Of course, he knew it couldn't. He lay down on the bed, feeling the last bit of strength in his body fade away, and heard her. the soft voice he loved so much, calling out to him. He was going to see her again, and they would never be seperated again. He knew it, deep inside. He took one last breath and just before closing his eyes, saw her face, gently smiling down at him, the cracks in the ceiling forming a crooked yet heavenly halo around her head, arms extended to him and he knew, everything would be okay.
