A Touch of History
This will mostly contain history stuff.
* I'm clearly coming down with something else, as I'm exhausted and have been sleeping in that "trying to fight off a pathogen" sort of way.

* The Republicans are now a majority "birther" party, presumably because they are too lazy to look up his birth certificate online and too stupid to realize that thinking with your amygdala is a bad idea. This is not the party of grown ups; it's the party of throw a tantrum when you don't get your way and reality denial.

* There were huge protests in Syria today. Government forces opened fire on the unarmed protesters, killing at least 50. The people doing this are incredibly brave, given the brutality of the government. Government forces also fired on protesters in Jordan and Bahrain.

* In Egypt, soldiers are picking women up off the streets and subjecting them to forced virginity tests. There are no words, really. secret police are grabbing people off the streets and torturing them.

* They are starting to see defector army units fighting on the rebel side in Libya. Things are still balanced on a knifes edge.

* The death toll in Japan is up to 10 thousand.

* In Wisconsin they published the law stripping union rights in defiance of a stay by the courts that forbid it's publishing or enforcement until it's determined if it was passed legally. Walker says he's going to enforce the law anyway.

This all on the 100th anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist fire.

* According to a new poll the majority of Americans are for DADT repeal. Too bad it's unlikely to matter in the near term.

* RM found, an appalling example of adult cyberbullying of a middle school girl. Also, yet another reason to hate Tosh.0: http://www.npr.org/blogs/monkeysee/2011/03/18/134652534/ridiculed-youtube-singer-rebecca-black-grabs-a-mountain-of-bull-by-the-horns

* RM found, "Slut-Shaming on the Playground:" http://magazine.goodvibes.com/2011/03/21/slut-shaming-on-the-playground/

* I saw a commercial for the new Duran duran album. O.o The sample they played sounded exactly as one would expect. *shudder*

* Looks like Katy Perry's getting eliminated out of fug madness by J. Simpson, alas.

* Wil Wheaton on a reunion with the other surviving Stand By Me guys: http://wilwheaton.typepad.com/wwdnbackup/2011/03/though-i-hadnt-seen-him-in-over-twenty-years-i-knew-id-miss-him-forever.html
