OMG, that was THE best concert I have ever been to. So I'll start at the beginning.
New years eve: Before talking to a really cute girl, Jay say to me, he says. "did you know that the big day out is comming to South Africa, they're gonna bring a whole lot of really cool bands, well except for the Rasmus." Something like that, anyway we all agree its cool.
Some other time after that: I hear that Metallica is headlining, and instantly I want a golden circle ticket, its an experience I cannot miss. So I fork out the R525 for the ticket, I justify the expence to myself by, remembering that its not just for metallica, otherbands will be playing, and it'll be worth it.
So this Saturady rolls around, Im not feeling all that great, not really hyped up for the concert as I hang around at work. Work finishes and I head home, to collect my stuff. I find out from friends who are already there, that you arn't allowed to bring food and drink into the venue....sucks. Because its a hot day, and Im thinking I'll need to spend a fortune on water. :/ So I pick up Phil, put some sunblock on and head out to green point stadium. I remember parking in some random little street, that was really narrow. Im surprised I found my car again actually. Anway so we get into the stadium, and the stage is already pretty impressive. This is around like 2-2:30pm. My troubles now rest at the back of my mind. Slowly its setting in that I will witness Metallica play live. And OMG ther eare lots of nice looking girls out here.
So we hook up with Kai, and Laura as they are about to enter the walk through spray mist cool off thing, they lead us to Ian, Kayla, and Chris who have found a spot up front in the golden circle area. So as the day moves on the acts get better and better. Simple plan sucked. I don't dispute that they are talented. In fact they are good, however thier choice of lyrics leave something to be desired. In otherwords they suck. The bassist looked so EMO generic it hurt my eyes. He had the typical black dyed hair, black eye liner, tight black pants, and a white shirt and tie. This guy was such a show off it was terrible. :/ Boo to emo generics....
Seether was great, they where very good and turned me on to thier music. I hadn't herd it before, but now I like it. I think though that they where the ones who should've opened for metallica. Collective soul, although good and a big name and everything. Just couldn't get much out of the crowd. Not many peolpe knew of them, I myself only knew two of thier songs. I was semi dissapointed in thier perfomance...oh well.
The 30 minute inerlude ended up taking like 40mins. The roadies and guitar technitions where getting progressivly better. You could tell this was going to be good. When scence started to play on the screens the crowd went wild. Finally they where going to play, and Metallica appeared with roars from the crowd. It was fan tastic, my voice had nearly gone at that point, but I screamed my little heart out. When I couldn't shout no more, I stuck my little fitst in the air with everyone else. I managed to mosh, wich got me pretty damn close to the stage, it was fun. I managed to get back to my friends in time to sing along to enter sandman, and seak and destroy. Oh man it was great. I don't think I've pushed my voice that much.
Searching....SEAK AND DESTROY. mrgreen that sounded so cool comming from the crowd. Once it was over, I was smelly, sweaty, tired and satisfied. I imagine to the same extent as a good sexual encounter would go. The night wound down with everyone getting chicken at Fontannas and then a migration to the shack. It was so good to sit down.
Im still wearing that golden circle black plastic bracelet. Soon we'll chip in to buy the mp3s of the concert off the website. Then I can say, I was there Im in that crowd. Searching....SEAK AND DESTROY whee
