The story goes thus:
Men start out thinking they're pretty well awesome but a little extra couldn't hurt. Like a bacon sandwich. The bacon sandwich is good - it has a lot of bacon in it but it could always use some more, right? Can you ever really have too much bacon?
Whereas women are constantly told that the sandwich can never have too much bacon. It can never even have enough bacon. Maybe if they stretched a little further, did a little more then it might be adequate. It's probably the wrong sort of bacon anyway and there's too much salt and too much fat in it. And the bun needs to be firm (but not crusty). Low-fat and reduced salt. Wholemeal or wholegrain? The business of making sure women can never feel perfect is worth tens of billions every year. You could probably fund a small island nation on mascara alone. If thy use enough control tights, support knickers, Wonderbras, Spanx, diet pills, slimming aides, miracle jeans, Fitflops, low-fat cereal, fake tan, makeup, hair dye, frizz tamer, curling irons, straighteners, implants, tweezers, razors, hair removal creams, self-help books, fitness videos, shoes, handbags and dresses which cover our problem areas, if they can squish this bit in and shove that bit out, lift those, tuck that in and firm this up a bit then maybe, maybe, one day they will have done enough that they can stop worrying about bacon and finally get to just enjoy being human.
I can't really comment on any of this though. It's only what I've heard and I don't really like bacon anyway.
I had a friend at University who became a bit obsessed though. She was okay until someone told her he thought she was fat and then nothing was ever fine again. She couldn't be thin enough, couldn't be pale enough, hair too thick, boobs too big, body too tall, nails too short...
