Ch.1 A Cherry Blossoming Love
"Today," I fixed my ribbon, "I am a high school student!" I stared at myself in the mirror a bit longer, admiring myself in my new uniform.
"Sakura! Get your but out of your room! You're going to be late!" my mom yelled.
I looked over at the clock, "Huh? I am going to be late! I'm off!"
I ran out the door and grabbed my bike. My feet was pedaling full speed ahead. I didn't realize how fast I was going until I saw another bicyclist in front of me. I tried using the bike break, but it was too late. CRASH! We flew off our bikes and soon enough the bikes were tangled together.
"Hey! Watch where you're going!" the other bicyclist yelled.
"I'm sorry!" I apologized and bowed deeply.
"Well don't just stand there, help me untangle the bikes!" the bicyclist snapped.
"Right!" I finally looked up at the other bicyclist and saw probably the most handsome face I have ever seen, but that handsome face was scowling at me.
After a couple of minutes we got our bikes free from the tangles. He gave one last mean look at me and left.
I couldn't tell if I hated his attitude or liked his looks, but I decided on hating his attitude because no matter how handsome he was on the outside he was still a jerk on the inside.
I spaced out and felt something fall on my head and picked off the cherry blossom petal, "How pretty," I admired it then I realized, "I'm going to be late!"
I hopped back onto my bike and just barely made it to the opening ceremony of the school year. After long speeches from the principal and many head advisers of the school something caught my attention.
"And now are the speeches from the top students of each class," the principal announced. "Freshman class representative, Chichi Jun."
I could hear all the girls around me getting excited suddenly. What was so exciting to them, and then...
"Good morning freshman class of Sakurako High School," a familiar voice spoke.
No way. It can't be. Him?! I looked up to see that handsome face except with a serious look instead of a scowl. Right now he looked really cool, but wait... isn't this guy a jerk? I kept thinking this telling myself that he's a jerk. He's a jerk. He's a jerk!
An hour later...
"Man! That ceremony took way too long," I stretched and walked over to my first class.
I walked into the room and the teacher told me not to sit down yet. He said that he had a different way for the seating arrangement. The bell rang and the teacher gathered everyone.
"Good morning everyone," the teacher pulled out a box, "We will use this to determine the seating chart. Each paper has a number that corresponds with each desk. One by on each person will draw a number and find their seat. So who wants to be first?"
The room was silent.
"Okay then, how about you miss," the teacher pointed to me.
"Alright," I walked over to the teacher's desk. He put the box in front of me. I reached in and picked my ticket. "Row five seat one."
"You are right over there in the back corner by the window," the teacher directed me.
I walked on over and sat down in my official seat. People were finally going one by one into their new seats. The next to mine was still empty.
"Well then I guess that last seat is yours," the teacher pointed to the empty chair next to me.
I could hear footsteps coming when they stopped, "Oh no! Not you!"
I turned around and stared for awhile then finally woke up from my daze, "Huh? Oh no! Not you!"
"Is there a problem Mr. Chichi?" the teacher asked.
"Err, no," Jun sat down.
First period went along slowly, so I went into another daze and stared at the cherry blossom trees outside.
"Miss Pinku! Are you listening?" the teacher called.
"Y-yes sir!" I woke up.
"At least pay attention on the first day," the teacher scolded me.
He went back to teaching and I started to lose him. Out of boredom I started doodling some cherry blossoms on the side of my paper. I felt a tap on my shoulder.
"You probably shouldn't be doodling on your paper," Jun whispered.
"But I like cherry blossoms," I said.
"I like cherry blossoms too, but do you see me doodling on my notes?"
"I can fix that," I grinned.
His paper was dull with words, but then I grabbed his paper and started doodling cherry blossoms on it.
"H-hey! What are you doing to my notes?" Jun hissed. "Give it back!"
"Wait! I'm not done with this flower!" I giggled as he tried to take his paper back.
"Those don't even look like flowers," Jun criticized while trying to retrieve his papers.
"That's a mean thing to say," I whined.
"Miss Pinku, Mister Chichi? What's going on back there?" the teacher boomed.
"Uhh," we both just stared.
"Both of you step out of the classroom until first period is over," the teacher said angrily, "And I should expect more from you, Class Representative."
Jun got a depressed look on his face and sulked out of the room. I got up and followed him.
We sat in the hall quietly. It was awkward and I didn't know what to say.
Suddenly I blurted out, "I'm sorry." Then I covered my mouth. Jun just sulked so I continued, "For almost making you late for the opening ceremony and for giving the teacher a bad impression of you."
Jun just kept sulking and finally said, "You also ruined my bike and destroyed my notes."
"Oh, okay," I said, "I'm also sorry for wrecking your bike and notes."
Jun started chuckling, "You're a bit weird."
"What's so funny?" I was confused.
"You're reactions are so unexpected," Jun was laughing a bit still.
I stared at his smiling face seeing his handsomeness glow with laughter.
Jun stopped laughing, "Okay, I guess it's my turn to apologize."
"Wait, what do you need to apologize for?" I asked him.
"For this morning's incident," Jun reminded me.
I thought for a moment, "Oh! This morning when I finally declared you as a jerk."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Jun asked.
"Oh, never mind," I laughed. "Continue please."
"I'm sorry for the way I acted towards you," Jun said.
"You do seem a bit more open and friendly now that opening ceremony is over," I pointed out.
"Yeah, I was just stressed from the speech I had to prepare," Jun admitted. "I worry too much about the impression I make on the teachers and other people."
"And I sort of ruined it for you with this teacher," I said.
"That's alright," Jun lied and stared at the ground.
I looked up at the ceiling and said, "Well it doesn't matter what that the teacher thinks, but I still think you're cool."
Jun looked at me and said, "You're a bit weird."
I still didn't get it.
The teacher called us in.
A month later...
Jun and I have gotten really close really fast; he is my only friend at this high school. We ride our bikes to school and going home. At school when the teacher isn't looking we switch notes and doodle cherry blossoms on them, but Jun still says mine don't look like flowers.
Today we are doodling on each others notes. I reach over to his desk to steal his next paper and there is very little writing on this paper, but it says, "Do you like me?"
My response was, "Yeah of course ^U^."
I passed the paper back to him and he wrote on the paper again. I took it off his desk. The paper said, "Then will you go out with me?"
I dropped my pencil and the blood rushed to my head.
The teacher turned around, "Miss Pinku, are you okay? You're face is really red."
"Actually could I go to the nurse?" I asked.
"Go ahead," the teacher gave me permission.
"May I bring Sakura to the nurse's office?" Jun asked.
"It's okay, I can go alone," I ran out quickly.
"Weird response, as always," Jun says to himself and sits back down.
I walked to the nurse's office and told her I was feeling. She let me lie down in a bed. I really did feel dizzy not because I was sick, but because I was confused. The only reason I came here was because I didn't want to answer Jun. Actually I don't know how to answer him. If I said yes then we might be moving along too fast and we might ruin our relationship. If I told him no then I might lose him as a friend and we'd still ruin our relationship. Either way something is going to change.
The final bell rang and school was out for the day.
"Are you going to stay here longer?" the nurse asked.
"Yeah, maybe for about another half hour," I said.
"Alright then, take your time," the nurse smiled and left.
I sat in the bed for awhile until the door opened.
Jun popped his head in, "Are you feeling alright?"
I remembered his question and the blood rush to my head made me dizzier than I already was, "Yeah, supper great!" I punched my fist in the air, but fell back into the bed.
"How about I stay with you until you feel better?" Jun asked.
"I'll be here awhile," I said. "You should go home."
"Are you sure you don't want me to wait?" Jun persisted.
"It's fine," I told him.
Jun stared at me for a while longer, picked up his bag and finally said, "Alright." He got up and walked out.
The nurse came back in to check up on me, "How are you doing sweetie?"
"Could I have about another hour in here?" I asked her pleadingly.
"Uh, sure," she answered me awkwardly, "Are you sure you're okay?"
An hour later...
I was walking my bike instead of riding it.
"I wonder when Jun started liking me that way?" I asked myself. I turned on the corner to the cherry blossom tree. "Wow! The cherry blossoms are still blooming this late in the year?" I kept on walking to catch some petals when I saw someone standing by the cherry blossom tree.
"Hey," Jun smiled.
"J-Jun?" I was astonished. "How long have you been waiting there?"
"Since you sent me home," he said.
"Oh, cool I'll see you tomorrow," I said quickly and hopped onto my bike.
"Wait!" Jun grabbed my arm. "Please answer my question."
I still didn't know what to say to him, "I don't know."
"But why? I thought you said you liked me?" Jun was getting a bit dramatic.
"I like you as a friend and I'm afraid of what would happen if we were ever more," I started to tear up.
"I see," Jun said sadly. We were silent for a few minutes then Jun broke the silence, "Remember at the beginning of the year how I said that I liked cherry blossoms?"
"When was that?" I asked.
"The very first day of school," Jun said. "It's probably my favorite flower now."
I blushed, "When I said you were cool I really meant it."
"Why is that?" Jun asked.
"Because you know how to make me laugh and you accepted my feelings even though I didn't accept yours," I said shyly.
"Yeah," Jun blushed heavily.
The cherry blossom petals were falling heavily. One landed in my hair.
Jun picked it out and said, "How pretty." Then he leaned over and kissed me on the cheek.
I stood there for awhile shocked, but then I realized how I really felt about Jun.
I held his hand and said, "This is the start of a cherry blossoming love." I gave Jun a wide smile and he returned it.
