Closing the Distance
I stare into the softness of the sky,
Dreaming about love.
I stare further, tears in my eyes,
Seeing you beyond and above.
You're hanging off the edge of a cloud,
White wings spread so wide.
Singing beautifully out loud,
Such a soft lullaby.
I am stricken with a deep regret,
It seeps through every pore.
Broken, these wounds will not be set,
Such a driven lonely force.
I spread open my arms,
I wish to be free.
I spread open my heart,
If only I had wings such as thee.
Unlike anything I'll ever truly know,
I see a teardrop fall from your eyes.
Sadness is falling from the happiness you've sown,
And as this tear wets my lips, I cry.
I hope with all the strength in my heart,
You widen your eyes from the very start,
I give into the cravings of my soul, my heart,
And grow wings to close this distance that keeps us apart.
