Short Description:
Ives is one of the products of the Mage Academy, being taught in the school of thaumaturgy for 5 years (other two trying to study other magic with no success). He is adept in the field, however is incapable of using offensive magic.
He uses his talents to be a smith and artificer, creating swords and trinkets infused with enhancing or elemental power.

Background:
Ives Northswain was abandoned in front of the academy when he was 3. He was taken in by one of the professors, and took his family name of Northswain. At the age of 5 he was enrolled into the school, and it became clear that he was a master when it comes to the "magic of miracles" - Thaumaturgy.
He spent 5 years studying that art before his mind drifted to other types of magic. With permission from his foster parent, he tried out the other magics for two years, with no avail. In as much as he wanted to continue to study, he slowly realized the burden he was placing on his guardian. He then set out to go out of the walls of the academy to somehow pay back his dues. Still, under the patronage of the academy he had set up a shop where he caters to the needs of soldiers, sellswords, and adventurers alike, which has been running for less than a year now.
He takes pride in his talent, though he acknowledges that there is much for him to know about magic and the world. Now, he explores the world to get the best materials for his craft, and pay for the tuition to continue his studies.

He is still a little kid and will be childish. He is though open minded and friendly.
When one takes about his work, magic or work he takes a serious tone, something he developed in his dealings in order to command respect. Still, this is only a facade and when it does break he would regress and run somewhere crying.
