Abel is a very intelligent and attentive individual, due both to his upbringing and his job as a Sous Chef. Although he was raised in the kitchen, his foster parents did everything they could to be able to put him through schooling in Zenithis, which was said to have the best school systems in all of the Tourmaline Empire. And of course, being raised and taught to be a cook, he was taught how to pay exceptionally close attention to detail with everything that went on around him. He can tell any spice from one another by a simple glance, know just how fresh something is from both sight and smell, and can spot a fly across the kitchen and cut it in half before it has time to land on a pot (though the last part may be a bit of an exaggeration). Due to his nature in the kitchen, he's very particular about what is served to customers and never allows a dish to go out the door before he inspects and tastes it. He believes in only serving the best, and he would just as quickly beat any cook to a bloody pulp for serving bad food as he would any customer who insulted their food. And yes, he has been known to do that. He's spent a few nights in jail for it, in fact.

Due to both the climate in the Grey Horizon and the particular section of Zenithis that he lived in, he was raised believing the strength of the mind and of the body was the key to survival. Well, that and a healthy diet. He has trained his body with some of the other cooks at the restaurant over the last twenty years, which has kept him in top physical shape. On some of his spare time, he got the chance to train with a couple of the Knights that were regulars to Quixote, which allowed him to learn how to properly fight. He stands up for his beliefs and his family and friends, and he has no issue whatsoever with putting you down for disrespecting them. In all his time, though, he has only killed one man, and it was something that scarred him for life. He has fought plenty of times, but he has refused, since then, to kill another human being.

On a side note, he is very flirtatious and confident with himself. This he gets from his father, who taught him "what to look for in a woman". Of course, his mother taught him the same thing, on the completely opposite side of the spectrum that his father taught. Beautiful women tend to be a weakness of his, in which he gets caught casually flirting with them, regardless of if they are friends, regular customers, or complete strangers. There's no harm in harmlessly flirting. He's also got quite the habit of singing while he cooks, and this is in large part due to the custom at Quixote that the cooks sing songs as a group while they cook. They're both the cooks and the entertainment for the guests, as the cook choir can be heard quite well all the way to the front door of the restaurant.

███Abel doesn't remember anything about his life prior to being rescued by the Quixotes when he was eight. From what he was told as he had grown older, they had found him unconscious when they were on their way home to Zenithis. They, of course, took the unconscious child back with them to their home and cared for him until he was no longer sickly. Apparently, being faced down in the snow tends to make you sick. Go figure. When asked about where he came from, Abel only responded that he couldn't remember. They had put out some notices around the city and in a few nearby villages and towns about the homeless child, hoping that his parents would find the notice and come rushing to Zenithis to be reunited with their son. Alas, no such luck had arrived. Not for several years, anyway. Adelle, the wife and mother of the family, took it upon herself to claim custody of the child, deciding to raise him as her own son.

He grew up alongside of Erionelle, his new elder sister, doing all sorts of chores and duties in the family restaurant, simply named Quixote. Of course, he started out doing simple chores such as cleaning and washing the dishes while his sister, who was twelve at the time, was out taking orders and serving customers. During a night where some rather high-standing Nobles were in attendance for a taste of what Zenithis's "finest restaurant" had to offer, he snuck into the kitchen to finally have a little peek at how real cooks worked. And of course, being a silly eight year old boy, he got it in his head that he could do whatever they were doing. Well, as luck would have it, he tampered with the stew that was being made for said Nobles. It wasn't until the food was out the door that Marx, his father and owner of the restaurant, caught him tampering with the food. The Nobles respectfully asked to speak with the man who had cooked their food, so Marx took his son out with him to hear about what the Nobles had to say and had prepared to apologize immediately because Abel had tampered with it. Fortunately, that speech wasn't necessary. They complimented it, saying it had to have been the best stew they had ever had. That was when they decided to test something out.

Abel was put to the task of making a meal for both his family and for the cooks in the restaurant. He did, and they vomited. But Marx came to realize that the boy did have talent in the cooking field, even at a mere eight years, but he had no understanding of how spices worked. So he taught him, and with each failure at cooking a meal, he came to understand more and more about the cooking field. At just shy of ten years old, he had whipped up a soup that everyone had loved, so when they asked him to recreate it, they decided to see what others thought by serving it to the customers as a special for the day. And sure enough, it became a favorite. From then on, Abel stopped being the restaurant's chore boy and instead started being an apprentice cook, jumping from each type of cook to learn every possible field of cooking. When he was seventeen, he was asked to attend a royal banquet with his father in which they would prepare a meal for Royal Family. Having spent ten years with his restaurant family, he had become quite a fan of challenges, and he never turned one down when it came to cooking. He agreed to attend, and the father-son chef duo had prepared a large buffet of food for the family. They were not only impressed, but they had immediately asked Abel to become become a cook in the castle. A career path that would change his entire life. His response?

"Sorry, Your Majesty, but I must decline. I love where I am now, and I prefer cooking for everyone in Zenithis rather than the stuck-up bureaucratic hounds that reside here." Instead of locking him up for his comment, the King merely laughed and accepted his refusal with the condition that he still cooked for the occasional banquet. This, Abel agreed to. After the banquet, he became the Sous Chef at Quixote and has remained there ever since.

The only field of his life that has never been properly explored is the romance side of life. Due to his father's teachings, he had become quite comfortable with himself and had taken on his father's habit of harmlessly flirting with beautiful women. But never once has he been in a committed relationship. It's not from a lack of interest, but more of a lack of trust. Women have always been sweet to him, but when he was younger, he tried a few times and considered what a relationship would be like. The issue was that the few women he debated on actually trying with were either gold diggers or town whores, neither of which he had any interest in. He's figured that since then, he'd prefer his flirting and keeping himself as he was until the right woman came into his life.

The latest chapter of his life has consisted of being offered the chance to fulfill his "thirst for adventure that he's always kept secret", as his father had put it, when there came rumours of a royal expedition to the lands beyond the Empire. Originally, he didn't have any interest in it. He enjoyed his job and what he did. But when Erionelle prompted him to go so that he could see the world and then bring her back souvenirs from distant lands, he figured 'what the hell' and signed up to be the expedition's cook. He didn't exactly say what kind of combat experience he had, only that he would be able to handle himself. Once he had decided to actually consider it, Erionelle and Adelle went out of their way to get one of the Royal Blacksmiths to craft him his own weapons, a pair of gauntlets and greaves made from a unique metallic alloy that would seem light for him but still be capable of defending himself in case they ran across something extremely deadly out there. So, that's where he stands, ready to set out and become an adventurer.

███Abel is the Sous Chef at Quixote, one of the most famous restaurants in Zenithis. He has been offered the chance to be one of the Royal Chefs for the Prince several times, but has turned down the offer every time, claiming that he'd prefer to "cook for everyone instead of the stuck-up bureaucrats in the castle", though he has still cooked for royal banquets and such. All he's ever done is cook and work for the Quixote family, so he tends to stick with the beliefs that they drilled into him.

███Cooking Gear: Everything from pots and pans to some silverware and china. He brings what he requires to cook and eat with, and he only uses the best. This includes some personally customized kitchen knives made for him by a blacksmith who typically specializes in forging swords. He's been known to break the hands of anyone who touches these knives.

Hunting Knife: Though he doesn't use it much, he does carry a hunting knife whenever he goes on trips. It's typically used less for killing and more for skinning animals he's taken down, but it works just the same as a weapon.

Pandora: It's the name he's given to his gauntlets and greaves that had been made for him by one of the Royal Blacksmiths. They were forged with a very light metallic alloy that is sturdy enough to stand up to perfectly forged swords, but light enough that he can move around with them easily. They were crafted in such a way that when using them, he is able to punch and kick as if they weren't even there. Certain parts on the greaves, as well as the elbows and knuckles of the gauntlets, were crafted with small spikes, designed to cause massive damage. The only part more dangerous than the knuckles are the fingertips, which were designed to be more like claws.

Cooking: This has always been a passion of his. He has been cooking since he was very young, and has worked as a waiter and a chef at Quixote, a family owned restaurant located in Zenithis.
Fighting: The particular area he grew up in was, at times, rough, and the climate always seemed to have it out for people as well. He was taught that surviving meant being strong in both mind and body, so he trained himself to be strong - which usually involved beating up thieves and bullies.
Singing: The kitchen he grew up in was filled with workers who would sing like sailors when they worked. It became a regular custom for him to sing when he worked.
Competition: He's always liked being in competitions of all sorts. He doesn't always have to win, though he does love winning, but competitions are fun to him.
Cats: How can you not? They're adorable...
Women: Well, that's a bit obvious, right?

              ძɿςՆɿқ૯ς
Wasting Food: Being a chef, he hates the thought of wasting food. He always encourages people to finish whatever food they are served. He has been prone to yell at his employees for throwing out leftovers. There are plenty of animals around that they could have fed with that food instead of tossing it in the trash.
Laziness: Ever since he was young, he has always been put to work and been forced to accomplish his tasks with efficiency. People who let others take up their share of the labor irritate him.
Ignorance: That whole saying about how "Ignorance is bliss" is total crap. Stupid people annoy him, almost on the same level as people who waste food. He has no tolerance for stupidity.
Thieves: They are amongst the most dishonourable of people, and he has no tolerance for them. He'll feed a starving man, but a man who tries to steal food deserves to perish.
Bad Cooks: If you can't cook, stay out of the damn kitchen.

███Abel is known for always dressing exceptionally well, believing that he should always look his best should he ever happen to come across a beautiful woman. He's not a womanizer by any means, but he sees no wrong in harmlessly flirting with a pretty lady.

Also, he is known for always wearing some kind of hat around when he's not cooking. He keeps his hair pulled back or in a bandana when he cooks, but out in the town or on some kind of journey, he is always wearing some sort of hat, usually his favorite.
