Cake is a great band. Lots of emphasis on the bass and drums which I love. Any band that regularly uses a trumpet and takes advantage of backup percussion gets extra points regardless. But Cake do it right, I can't say for sure but they strike me as the kind of band that likes to absolutely perfect every song to the last note. There's the song that everyone hears on top and then there's layers of subtlety that make the songs feel like well thought out works of art and not just catchy pop schlock. And dem bass lines hnnng
