The name Gaara itself is telling of his personality as it means "A demon who only loves himself". The name was chosen for him by his Mother who wished and believed he was only to fight for himself and love only himself, and by doing so he would live on forever. This gesture was not done out of love for Gaara but rather in hopes that Gaara would live on to carry her grudge.

Like Naruto, Gaara posesses a secret. Within him he holds one of the Jinchuuriki, and if you dont know what that means I will fill you in: the Jinchuuriki, is a tailed demon much like Naruto's fox demon.

As a child Gaara had it tough. The children would not play with him and no matter how nice his smile was he was always left standing alone. He tried to return the ball that was stuck on the roof in which some kids had been playing with but there reply was
kids: it's...Gaara,Gaara of the sand. Then with that they tried to run while Gaara replyed I dont want to be alone anymore when his anger and frustration got the better of him his sand wrapped around one of the children's legs unfortunatly the kid was not killed (should of been though for being so mean!)Yashamaru the only one who truly had cared for Gaara blocked his attack and Yashamaru calmed Gaara down. Although deep inside Yashamaru despised Gaara. For Yashamaru's sister who is also Gaara's mother had died giving birth to Gaara. Later when Gaara was sitting on a ledge trying to find a reason for his existance he was attacked by a single ninja. Which was a foolish move considering Gaara easily defeated him using a single sand attack. When he pulled of the mysterious ninja's mask he realized it was the one he has considered his friend, Yashamaru! Absolutly terrified, Gaara sat there waiting for a reply. When Yashamaru spoke he said he was ordered to kill Gaara by none other then Gaara's father the Kazekage of the village. Thus Yashamaru blew himself in a itempt to kill Gaara, along with himself. Yashamaru died but Gaara's demon protected him with the sand that that appeared to protect Gaara even aggainst his own wishes. When Yashamaru tried to kill Gaara it destroyed every last shread of faith he had left. He then formed a large amount of sand that creates the mark above his eye.
