Becca's Helpful Tips for the Beginning Mapler
Okay, I'm feeling weird and like not writing a normal entry and doing something ... different. So I am. Anyways, this is gonna be a bunch of tips from my own experience for people who don't know much about MapleStory, like I didn't. and I'm bored and they're updating MapleStory (sometime, I don't know when, 0800 to 1100 +8 GMT. I'm in -5 GMT so I dunno when that is.) So here goes.

1. Don't become a magician. It sucks. You get only a little tiny bit of HP, and although you get a lot og MP you use it up really really fast. Defense isn't even that good either. But I suppose if you can work around getting both your MP and HP sapped extremely fast, go ahead.

2. Finish your quests on Maple Island. I didn't because I was too excited to see Onii-chan, and I didn't get this cool chair that let's you heal a lot of HP when you're sitting in it. But instead of that chair, I got a blue one that heals 35 HP every 10 seconds. If you're standing still, you get 10 HP every 10 seconds (there's a big difference).

3. Don't worry about the arrows that the monsters drop unless you plan on being a Bowman or having a crossbox or something like that. After awhile you get so many of them that there isn't room in your inventory for anything else.

4. If there's a place where there are a lot of monsters that you've never seen before, run. Don't try to fight them, they'll kill you and you'll lose 1/2 of your EXP (which I guess isn't that bad if you don't have a whole lotta EXP to start with, but it still sucks, especailly if people see you die, boy is that embarrassing.)

5. Don't go to channel 1 unless you have a REALLY fast internet connection or are social. Because, for me with my crappy wireless, it really slows it down when there are any people around. If there's a person in your training place, either tell them to change channels (in MS-lingo, it's called "cc pls" wink or "cc" yourself. Usually if you're the one who came there while they were training, it's proper manners for you to "cc" unless you're just passing through. Another thing about other people is that they will steal the mesos and items dropped from a monster that YOU KILLED. And if you kill a monster together, you hafta share the EXP. But sometimes if you tell someone that you've been changing channels ALL DAY (like I did once) they'll say something like "nvm" (which I think means "nevermind." wink

6. If you pick up items like snail shells, they may seems pointless but you can sell them for mesos (the monet unit on MS) at the stores. You can't sell the arrows though. I wish you could, I got over a freaking thousand of the ones for the crossbow! You can also sell armor and weapons (very rare finds) which usually sell for a lot, if they're not for your type of job (there's warrior, magician, bowman, and theif. And beginner, but that's not really a job) or if it's a kind that you don't need. There are some items that monsters drop, like Slimes drop Squishy Liquids, and those can be used on quests. But items like those you can find a lot of, so you can sell those too.

7. Party Members can be very helpful. First, there's an option in the MS chat bar-thingie that let's you talk to all of your party members, so you can always talk to them and ask for help. Another thing is that if they're training in the same area as you are, you share in experience and mesos without having to be fighting the same monster. If a member of your party kills a monster, the EXP will show up as yellow (it normally shows up as white). You can't share items though. You can trade items.

8. If a guy named killerbombz asks you for money, report his a** or SOMETHING. That kid bugged me for money and told me he didn't even have a weapon, and when I didn't give it to him he ran off to another channel and 'whispered' to me that he had 40k and I just lost 7k. So... if he had so much money, why was he asking for some from me? And I didn't lose 7k, when I checked, I still had all of my mesos.

9. Fame is, as far as I know, very and completely pointless. It just shows off if people like you or not. If someone adds to your fame, they're nice. Give them a cookie. If they drop your fame, they're mean. Hack their account (well, that would be bad and you could get banned for 60 days, so maybe don't do THAT).

10. There will be a lot of quests you can't do after awhile. Just level up or get a friend to help you. It'll get more fun, I think.

11. Pets are cool, but don't even dream of getting one unless you live in Singapore. Or can visit there. You see, there's a place called a cash shop where you can buy pets, but to get cash you need to buy this prepaid card thing (kinda like for cell phone minutes for a TracFone) and the only place you can buy them is at different stores in Singapore (they have a list on the MS website). I even looked for them online, nothing. And the pets only last for 90 days, and I don't think they even help you fight or anything. They're just really really cute, but otherwise pointless.

And yeah, that's pretty much all I got. I don't know a whole lot about the game. I'm just being weird.
