My tooth ache isn’t so achey anymore, so that’s a nice highlight this week. It’s been overcast by the fact I have a rather large infection though... Can’t visit a f*cking doctor though because no insurance for me this year because we couldn’t afford to cover two people. Roomy gets the insurance instead. Hopefully the infection doesn’t kill me before my room mate gets his taxes back so I can go to a doctor and get a prescription for antibiotics and/or get the tooth removed.

And... Wow not much else happened this week. I only got to work one day this week, though I did talk to the old lady a few times throughout the week. It’s good if I get out instead of being at home all the time, not only for my sanity, but because if I’m not here I can’t use electricity.

I guess the other thing I could mention is that I got to see Moana. Very good movie, though it has some issues. The two leads, Moana and Maui, not getting along for most of the movie, then suddenly there’s a scene where they talk about one of Maui’s tattoos, and then suddenly everything is okay. I expect the two to become friends because of the type of movie it is, but some build up over time would have been better rather than a sudden heel-turn. I could also pick at the fact the pig is advertised as part of the movie, and he/she is only in it for a short amount of time. And the pig doesn’t age, which bothered me every time I saw the thing. It’s cute and all, but it should age, just like Moana did. At the end of the movie we also see the chief, his wife, and Moana leaving their island. Did the whole population leave? Did they get new a new leader? Did Moana and her family just say “F*ck them, let’s sail the seas!”? I’d just really like to know what happened there. Oh, and none of the dudes had nipples. I can see why women wouldn’t (they don’t have their ta-tas out), but why the adult men? The last thing I would pick at when it came to the movie is that I wish there were more songs related to the culture and setting that Moana is from/part of. There’s like one or two in the movie, and I think one of them is used two or three times. I thought the other songs were good, much better than anything I endured watching Frozen, but I would really like to have seen maybe one or two more of the culture/setting type of song.

Though I went of several things that bothered me, over all, I really liked the Moana. It didn’t beat me (the audience) over the head with a message, or constantly go back to an unfunny joke throughout the movie. It just did its thing and it did it well while being entertaining, which is what it should do. A movie doesn’t need to do anything more, especially one targeted towards children.

Moana also apparently had some controversy about it when some people said it was offensive or something to the culture and/or it was portraying. I didn’t see any of that. The people in the movie were shown mostly happy with their lives, and nothing demeaning was said or pointed out about them. Then again, I know nothing about the culture and people the story uses, so maybe I missed something? Or maybe the people saying those things are crazy. I did hear something about white people making the movie and it was wrong because... white people? I get wanting more people in different positions in the world, but you can’t force those people into those positions. And honestly, if Disney had made another movie about a white person, I’m pretty sure most of the same people complaining about Moana would be complaining that they don’t have enough diversity or something like that. Disney could fire all the white people working for them and hire only other races, but I think that’d be a bad move financially. No matter the skin color or background of talented people, firing them and hiring quite possibly less talented people would just make the company ship sink. Especially now that all the talented people are free to work for competitors xd

I think I’ve rambled enough this week, though I was thinking about talking about the bechdel test. For some reason, Moana made me think about it. About all I have to say about that test is that I don’t use it to judge how good or bad a movie is, so it might as well not exist, at least that’s the short version of my thoughts... Anyways, byebye...
