"How are you doing today, Violet?"
Ida's tone was icy, as it always was. Her stern demeanour always made Violet sweat. Around her, Violet always felt as if she was in trouble even though she had done nothing wrong. And Violet could never tell whether Ida liked her or not - Was Ida threatened because Violet was the one who was closer to Elizabeth? Was Ida plotting to take over her role by the princess' side?
"Did you hear me, Violet?" Ida asked again. Though Ida held her head forward and her posture straight, her green eyes pierced into Violet from the side.
"I am doing well, just busy tending to Liz's random requests as usual," Violet replied as calmly as she could.
"I see. Elizabeth must be busy with her studies?" Ida's tone posed a question, though it seemed more as an assumption.
"Oh yes, studying hard. Doing princess things. Who knows where she is?" Violet babbled.
"You don't know where the princess is?" Ida immediately asked, finally turning her body to face Violet. Putting her under the spotlight for interrogation.
"Of course I know where she is!" Violet swallowed nervously, and forces a smile. Was the room getting warmer? She was already sweating under her blazer before this conversation. Were her ears turning red again? Could Ida tell she was lying?
Ida paused for a moment, silent. Her eyes studied Violet, who continued to plaster the best innocent expression on her face. Or at least what she perceived to be her best innocent expression - Violet had never been a good actress.
"I see." Was all Ida said on the topic. "Well, don't forget about guard training later. Your swordsmanship needs work."
