chapter 4: seaking the chorus
pressure was on my entire body covered in weights I was too weak to lift anything. My chest struggled to raise up as I breathed hoarsely pain shooting through my ribs with each inhale. I lay there helpless confusion and pain shooting through my head which ached already. I didnt know were I was but I wanted to call out if only in the smallest way for help and hope. I took in a painful breath and parted my lips dust and dirt falling into it I coughed with a weaze and I quickly closed my mouth again. Hope sinked in my heart unable to move or make a sound I would probably lay here till I died of hunger, thirst or some bleeding wound I couldnt discern from the rest of the pain in my body.
"huh? I think I heard something under all this rubble give me a hand... who in the hell could have survived that explosion?" that muffled voice made my heart lighten what seemed like a thousand pounds and my body finally relaxed.
I could hear rustling and scraping of rocks as they lifted them off then a small thud as they throw them off. with each scrape of debris lightened the weight on a part of my body until light hits my eyes and I open them slowly. Jack looked down and jumped back when he realized who it was, "holy s**t Keo?!? I thought you got turned to confetti when that MSW blew up... holy hell it was you wasnt it?"
I groaned slightly still in pain as Sheana pulled more rubble off of me and she smiles brightly hearing Jack say my name, "heh guess thats why your captain of these misfits" she uncovers more of me though my body is still aching badly. She watched as I strained to lift my arm then put a hand on it holding my arm down, "dont hurt yourself you psycho..." She slung her rifle around her back then lifted my upper body up so I was sitting, "we'll have Trey look at you and make sure your still fit enough to keep going... I hope so cause I sure want you with us if you can take down a beast like that by yourself" She took my pack off and carefully leaned down lifting my body up on her shoulder then stood up. I was a bit suprised how easily she could do it and I just relaxed unable to do anything for now she barked at Jack in a serious tone seemingly like another person from the friendly tone she used with me, "get his pack and follow me once Keo's good enough to walk we're off to Arch-Angel companies position..." She carried me through the streets between large protruding rubble in the street fallen from the stone buildings that towered still high overhead. We continued until we got to a store the wood sign in the front charred from being set on fire once the entire inside was covered in dust and debris gutted out and cold we continued through it into the back room were Trey was hunched in a corner fiddling with a radio the small blinking lights reflecting off his thick glasses until he turned his attention up at us, "C-captain Keo sir?... Is he okay?"
"Alive but anything else is up to you" Sheana said before pulling me off and sitting me against the wall. Trey stood up and walked over kneeling by me he pushed up his heavy sleaves, "does it hurt anywere in particular?"
I thought and nodded, "my leg..." I moved my right leg slightly and cringed in pain. He pushed up my pant leg and felt carefully along it, "no fracture or break... A fall or something made it sore but nothing a little rest cant heal"
relieved to not be in any serious danger from my wounds I relaxed against the wall, "thanks Trey... and you too Sheana I'm sorry for getting myself hurt so bad"
she laughed lightly and sat next to me, "we'd be dead without your crazy heroics it's a fair price" she smiled at me and Jack sat on the other side of her, "Sheana has the hots for captain Keo" he chuckled behind his hand and she glared evily and punched him in the arm hard enough to almost break it, "shut up private or I'll make you wish you were in Keo's state right now!" Jack mumbled rubbing his arm and walked out to guard the store front and she pushed up her coat collar to hide her blush.
