Do you know what the best thing about temptation is? Today my club, the Belly Dancing Club, had to perform in front of the whole High School.
But that wasn't the worst part! Since my school has a nasty habit of telling the performance groups about their future gigs they told us they wanted us to dance really, really late. We only had two days of practice and two of the girls had to bail! It was terrible, terrible, terrible.
Luckily the rest of us were determined to make our presentation great even without the two other girls. Especially since one had a far fetched reason for not dancing. She claimed to have been sick the day before but better on the day of her performance. Supposedly her mother didn't allow her to dance because of her illness. We all think she just didn't want to perform.
To add to my pressure I happen to be...
1. The only Senior in the club. I felt like I had to be great and set an example for the other girls.
2. I happen to come from the group of outsiders. Sometimes people even mistake me for a goth. You don't find those kinds of poeple in a Belly Dancing club offten so when they found out I was going to perform they were joking and poking fun at it. Even if they weren't trying to be hurtful it just spooked me.
3. This was out first performance.
4. I was in the center.
Because of the lack of time I was not very confident. And as soon as we were all there, in front of the whole High School, all my friends start screaming my name. Unfortunately this is a small school I go to, and being a senior quite a bit of people know me. And I just happened to make friends with the loudest people in the school.
Rawr.
Then, lo and behold, during the performance I messed up at least three different steps. But as a rule in show biz, if you just keep silming people usually buy that you are doing everything right. My few years in Ballet abd Singing lessons taught me that. True enough, everyone was telling me what a great job I did.
A few comments I got:
1. One of my bisexual girl friend said: "Eri! That dance made me want to molest you!!"
2. My student crush (Who I've liked for almost a year now gonk ): "Well, I can say we thoroughly enjoyed shaking what your momma gave you!"
3. My best friend: "You were so good!!! You wanna see your dance? I got it on video!"
Even the teacher crush I have gave me a high five and told me I did well too. heart heart
So I can't say I'm upset. In fact I'm feeling rather good. I just want to do a lot better in our next performance. According to our teacher the school has a lot more dances lined up for us. Ehh.... Wish me luck? whee
