~~~Chapter 3: Lia~~~
Since the hill that led up to the castle wasn't very steep, and that Felisha was one of the fastest girls she knew(few matched her skill), she was up the hill in no time. When she reached the crest of the hill, she saw that she wasn't even late, for others where hanging around waiting to be called in. Felisha would have been standing around like a fool if it wasn't for the sight of springy black curls with blond highlights...
"Aly!!" Felisha was about to call to her friend, but she tripped over a rock and land flat on her face. Aly turned around to see what happened and gasped. She clapped her hand to her mouth and ran to help Felisha up.
"Felisha!! You alright?" Aly helped Felisha get up and dust her off.
"Yeah," Felisha rubbed a bruise on her forehead, "I'm alright, thanks."
Aly smiled. She wore a white spaghetti strap shirt with fishnet selves, starting from her just below her armpits down to her wrists. She wore low rise jean Capri's and had plain boots. "No problem. So how ya been? Are you still okay from the time you fainted?"
Felisha blinked. "I fainted?... Oh! Oh, yeah I'm-I'm fine." Just after saying this, a bell rang loudly, making Felisha jump. "Wha' was that?!"
Aly rolled her eyes and said, "Duh! The bell! It's time for classes to begin!" Aly grabbed Felisha's hand and pulled her to the front doors. "I understand if you forgot some things when you bonked your head earlier, but have no fear! Your friend Lia will help you all the way!"
"Lia? Who's she?" Felisha thought as she was dragged to a enormous room where about a hundred or so youths were sitting on benches in front of a stage with a wooden, ornate podium. The youths were talking among themselves and didn't take much notice when Aly and Felisha walked in. The room was nothing special, except for four tapestries hanging on the walls. The were adjacent from each other, each with a different design. One was a crimson red with gold trim, with swirling circles and lines that reminded Felisha of fire. Another was a serene blue, with silver trim, and it's design looked as if it was a river. There even were faint outlines of fish. Another tapestry was forest green with a brown trim and the design looked like trees an mountains were in the background. The last tapestry was Felisha's favorite, a very pretty silver tapestry with a pale blue trim had the look of clouds on it.
When Felisha and Aly sat down on an empty bench, as if a switch was pressed, a man stood up to a podium. The man was elderly, like in his 60-Somethings, with red hair fringes. He scanned the rows of teenagers for awhile, waiting for them for the youth to be quiet. A few teenagers were still talking, oblivious to the silence of the others. The man at the podium loudly cleared his throat and the teenagers snapped to attention. The quickly faced forward with embarrassed faces. The man smiled at them and cleared his throat again.
"Hello and salutations, my dear students!" The man's voice echoed along the giant room. "I am Master Jevan, and I am here to greet you for this brand new day of education. For the announcements for today..." Master Jevan cleared his throat again. Felisha rolled her eyes. Master Jevan talked on and on about stuff that didn't interest Felisha. He cleared his throat many times during the announcements. "Someone get that man a frickin cough drop!" Felisha thought.
Felisha's mind wandered for a while when she felt Aly jab her in the arm. "Ow!" She rubbed her arm, "Whatcha do that for?"
"Come on! It's time to go for classes." Aly exclaimed. She grabbed Felisha's arm and pushed through the crowd of students shoving for the exits. Aly was fast enough to make it through without much shoving. When they escaped from the mob of escaping students, Aly hurriedly walked through the halls with Felisha on he tail. Felisha had no clue where they were running to, so she decided to follow Aly the rest of the way. It wasn't too long before Aly stopped suddenly and Felisha, being the spacey person that she is, ran into Aly and knocked her down. Male passerby laughed, but Felisha didn't care.
Felisha clapped her hand to her mouth and gasped. "Oh my God, I'm soooo sorry!" She squatted down and held out her hand. Aly groaned and grabbed Felisha's hand. Felisha lifted her friend up and gave her a hug. "Are you ok?"
"I'm fine..." Aly rubbed the back of her head. "Watch were you're goin' next time, you klutz!"
Felisha frowned. "Well, excuuuuse me! I said I was sorry, Aly..."
Aly blinked. "Aly... Why did you call me Aly?"
"Uhh...." Felisha blinked. "Isn't that... your name?" She mumbled, hoping Aly didn't hear her.
Aly cocked her to the side and squinted at the ground at Felisha's feet. "That's not my..." She began to say, but soon her eyes looked up at ceiling and exclaimed, "Oh! I get it! Aly is Lia with the letters mixed around! Of course!"
Felisha stared at Aly. "What is she talking about", She thought.
Aly chuckled and took Felisha's hand and patted it. "It's alright Lish, you just got the letters of my name mixed up!" Felisha blinked repeatedly. "It's Lia. LIA." Aly Lia said stressing the I in her name. She let go of Felisha's hand and stuck her thumb at the door to her side. "Shall we?" She asked, and entered the room. Felisha followed, blinking.
The room they had entered was obviously a classroom, like the ones you would find in a college. The room was a semi-circle, with stone stair like platforms where there where isles of chairs and a flat surface protruded form each of the chairs' side. There was a desk in the center of the only flat wall with papers with scrawled writing on them as if the writer was rushed, a dark green mat and a paper weight in the shape of an Owl like creature.
Lia lead Felisha to a seat and sat down. Felisha took the cue and sat down next to her, looking around. It didn't seem like class started, so she saw many groups of youth chatting in circles in various places in the room. A few seconds later, a man in his late twenties walked in through the door. He was wearing mud brown robes with his feet covered by his long robes, and he had his red hair in a ponytail and had a single earring. He also had a tattoo on his forehead. It was a circle with a X through it and a single dot in the canter of each quarter-circle. Felisha heard Lia sigh dreamily when the man walked in the door. Felisha smiled. She knew that sigh. It was Aly always did whenever her flavor of the month walked past.
The man rapped on his desk sharply, to catch the attention of the chatting groups. The groups hurriedly went to fill the seats not occupied. The man straightened and cleared his throat.
"Not you too," Felisha thought.
"Good Morning, Students." The man called out.
"Good Morning, Master Sprits" The class replied, sounding really bored.
Master Sprits smiled. "Is everyone happy that your training is almost over?" He called again. Now everyone cheered and whooped and whistled. Felisha didn't. She was too busy wondering why Master Sprits meant by 'almost over'.
"Well, since you all know the end is near, I'm sure you would also know this calls for a test on your knowledge thus far." Master Sprits said. Everyone groaned, including Felisha. If her brain was scrambled, it would be in no condition for a test, especially on a subject she never learned.
"So we are all going to review. I'm going to ask various question to a student, and let them pray to the Gods they know the answer. Everyone ready? Good. Now, Lia. Would you please name the basic facts of Judena."
Lia stood up. "Judena is the religion of the world. It outranks all other religions in popularity. The two major gods are Kyray, the King, and Godees, the Queen. Their children were given jobs to teach them responsibility."
"Good good, Lia. You may sit down." Master Sprits said. Lia sat down and sighed in relief. Felisha gave her a comforting smile and turned back to the teacher. "Now let's see... Karlan, would you please name the minor gods and their jobs."
A boy with shaggy hair looked up. "M-Me?" He asked. He didn't look perpared. Master Sprits nodded and the boy stood up. "W-well, The minor gods are the sons and daughters of the the King and Queen. They are Yuen, god of sun and war, Ujube, goddess of moon and l-love," He glanced quickly at Felisha and quickly looked back to Master Sprits. Felisha raised her eyebrows. That boy had a crush on her. " Dana," Karlan continued, "God of Seniority, Dyran, goddess of Youth, L-Legna, goddess of life and d-d-death, andlastKuyenethedarkgod." Karlan rushed and then sat down quickly.
Master Sprits smiled. "Very good Karlan, but I suggest you don't speed up when you're nearing the end." Cruel giggles bubbled from the back. Master Sprits didn't seem to notice. " Well then, Felisha,"
"Huh?" Felisha asked, blinking. She wasn't really paying attention.
"Would you mind explaining to us about Kuyene?"
"But, Master Sprits, I-"
"Stand up when you address the teacher." Master Sprits said.
Felisha sighed and stood up. "Master Sprits, I'm afraid I can't remember."
It was Master Sprits time to blink. "You can't remember..."
Lia quickly stood up. "Felisha isn't feeling well. She was knocked unconscious and can't seem to rmember much. I plan to help her out for the rest of class, in case she suddenly remembers."
Master Sprits nodded. "I understand. You may sit down both of you." As Felisha and Lia sat down, Felisha mouthed the words, "Thank you," to Lia. "No problem," Lia mouthed back.
Master Sprits looked to the group where the cruel giggles emitted from. "Well then, Misita, why don't you explain, instead of Felisha."
A girl with long curly yellow locks stood up. "Kuyene was cast out by Yuen when he torched Kyray's robes and blamed it on Dyran." She sat down again and smiled Master Sprits.
"And?..." Master Sprits asked.
"Oh!" Misita shot up. "And because of being cast out, he vowed vengence on the divine realms." She sat down again.
"Thank you," Master walked back to the center of the room." Now that we have the jist of our religion, let's move on to the Four Life-" The bell rang, interupting his sentance. The students quickly jumped out of their seats and ran out the door. As students shoved to freedom or a next class, Master Sprit called out, "Tomorrow, we will finish reviewing the Four Lives!" Felisha was sure she was the only one who actualy heard him, but it didn't matter. She had lost Lia in the mob, and was staring around franticly for her best friend.
"Felisha! Over here!"
Felisha turned and saw Lia waving her arm above the crowd. "Over here!" Lia called again and Felisha ran toward her.
"Where we going next?" Felisha asked.
"Practice Courts." Lia said and she grabbed Felisha wrist. "Come on! Combat Master Jaen is really strict when it comes to punctualness!" Lia raced away, leaving Felisha in her dust. She sighed and ran after Lia.
