It’s been almost 2 years since I first arrived in Barton. Not much has changed, really. Although they didn’t have the bubble makers at the town gate back then.
I remember walking in with peasant's clothes and making a living by fishing at the lake. Old Man Logan was kind enough to sell me a fishing rod for a reasonable price; even gave me some tips on how to fish and which bait to use. I even remember the first time I filled a bucket with fish, tires, and cans. I was so excited that I actually ran to the market trying to sell my catch. Turns out I needed a permit to start my own shop. But back then I didn’t have the money, so I was stuck with what I had. It was only after I returned to the lake that Old Man Logan told me he’d be glad to buy my catch. “It wouldn’t sell as much as in the market, but it should do” he said, and I’ve been fishing everyday since then. I was really glad the people around here were nice enough to welcome a stranger like myself into their community.
Eventually a couple friends of mine heard about me coming into town. They had been living in Barton for a while now; they were actually the reason I decided to go there in the first place. Mushka sent over some of his old shirts, while Ryunaito and Thyalla were kind enough to introduce me to the locals. A couple hours and a few buckets later, I had enough gold to buy my own house. Mushka gave me a tip on this great spot in Barton 1404. He told me it was a bit far from the general populous so it was nice and quiet. I remembered the cardboard box I used as a table back then. I miss that box… I won it at a bid along with a cheap lamp. Still have the lamp, though. I like to keep it around to remind me that life wasn’t always as easy as it is now.
When I arrived in town, the Gambino Mansion had already been demolished and it was nearing Halloween. I remember Jack’s antics as everyone in Gaia celebrated with the traditional Trick Or Treat. I got away with a lot of candies that week, even gave some to Jack in exchange for a Halloween costume. Never did get to complete that set… Things got a little out of hand when Jack and Santa duked it out at the town circle. There were even reports of a viral infection spreading around town. I was glad I had accidentally purchased a vial of unknown liquid at the market; the guys said it was a cure for the Grundy-sickness.
Sadly, Ryunaito was infected… we didn’t get him the remedy in time so he contracted the illness completely. Now he just hangs around like a zombie while Thyalla takes care of him. I like to stop by their house to check up on the guy when I can. Nothing’s really changed except Ryu’s starting to produce an odor. Thyalla said the flowers cancel it out so she doesn’t mind…
