The Colour Wheel. The basic of all colour-based artistry. It is the bane of anyone who took life drawing, art in any form or just had an art teacher in their lives who used it. But. It can help us on Gaia!!

eek you say? Well don't be! I shall now explain, with pictures.

As you may notice, the colour wheel is set out in a rainbow-like formation. What you may NOT know is that colours directly opposite each other are CONTRASTING colours 3nodding

So they go :

YELLOW contrasts to PURPLE
RED contrasts to GREEN
ORANGE contrasts to BLUE.

example:

Here are blues and oranges together on an avatar. Sometimes contrasting colours look good and play off each other 3nodding

Note: Contrasting colours are what images turn when they are inverted but by inverting a colour it becomes a different shade;

Example

Light Orange becomes Dark Blue

Now; whilst you can use contrasts to make a good Gaia avatar, the most pleasing ones seem to be complimenting; meaning tones that work together either different tones of one colour or colours that support another colour.

Warm colours will compliment each other warm colours include;

Red Orange Yellow.

Cold colours will equally compliment each other, they include;
(some)Greens Blue and Purple

Or course some purples are warmer and colder, same with green shades - some greens work better with yellows and some purples better with reds. it's down to you to see how your tones match up. 3nodding
