Through the Looking Glass
Ongoing Tales of Tome - Scroll One: Behind Grey Eyes
It was way too cold. It was one long hall, filled with dimmed lights and no windows. There were no paintings or furniture to break the endless way. Sometimes it seemed like something moved in the shadows. But it was just paranoia of the mind.

Yilanti Midnight shivered in the secret lair that was underground, entrance well hidden. How many times in that certain spot in the hall had she stopped? She only knew where that spot was because of that odd stain on the wall. It made her stop and think about things. If she hadn't been so eager to buy a donation letter. If she hadn't opened it, if she had given it to someone else... All reminiscents of her past that she wondered what would have happened if she had changed one little bit. Her grey eyes moved, slightly twitching.

The girl walked on, arrived at a steel door, that she easily pushed open. She had been here many times before. Inside there were candles, and a floor filled with pillows. On the side was a table with an empty plate and saucer. A napping white cat opened a lazy eye and looked at her. He stretched and slowly strode towards her. Yilanti took a deep breath, and felt the familiar warmth come to her, something that she welcomed as fast as possible, just to forget who she used to be.

A shimmer of blue eyes, and a grin. The white cat looked at her. And spoke.
“What’s the latest count?” A deep voice asked the puppy girl.
“55, and still rising, my lord.” She answered back. The twitch in her eyes was gone. Confident in her new form her master had given her.
“Excellent. These souls will form my army when the time comes.” The cat said purring.
Yilanti knew what to say next. He always wanted to hear these words. “The time for what, my lord?” As she asked, she grinned, feeling powerful. Knowing she had made her master happier.
“The time to take over Gaia.”

Tome looked at his right hand, who was enjoying her newly gained reward of an ORLY? Hat. Playing with it was somehow her way of enjoying life and forgetting that she was actually in a mess worse that she could calculate. The cat would never understands mortals. He never considered himself one, since the day he learned to speak and listen to words, and discovered the ability to consume ones soul. Was it fair that this girl was the first? No, but life was never fair.

He watched her drift to sleep. Tomorrow would be another harvest of souls. But Yilanti had never resisted. It was as if she enjoyed being his right hand, enjoyed the evil side of life.

Or maybe she knew she couldn’t go back.
