'Tis the journal of me!
Here is just some of my thoughts and what happens to me in life.
ALL-STATE. ZOMG. DAVIS.
Yep. In a bit I am leaving to try out for all-state.

All-state is where you & other students in the area ( High-school for me. ) take a written test, also known as the musicianship test. After that taking a sight-reading test.

A little about the musicianship test. There are seven parts to it.

Part I:
Melodic and Rhythmic Recognition.
They give you a two-lined piece of music. They play it twice and you have to figure out if the rythem & notes are right in each measure.

Part II:
Chord Quality Recognition.
Basically you have four different chords.
Major, minor, augmented & diminished.
They play it each chord melodically, then harmonically.
Major - A diatonic scale where the half-steps fall between the third and fourth, and the seventh and octave.
Minor - Same as Major, but the middle note it lowered a half-step.
Augmented - Raised or enlarged. Generally refers to the raising of a pitch by one half-step.
Diminished - Lowered, or reduced; generally refers to the lowering of a pitch chromatically by one half-step.

Part III:
Interval Recognition.
You have to determine if the chord is: Major/Minor 2nd, 3rd, 6th or 7th. Perfect fourth. Perfect fifth. Octave. Unison.
Honestly, Major/Minor 6th & 7th are hard cause you can barely tell them apart. DDD;

Part IV:
Rhythmic Recognition.
You get three exercises. All you have to do is see if they played the right rhythm.
If it's incorrect, you must point out the mistake to recieve full credit.

Part V:
Meter (Time) Signature Recognition.
In a piece of music you get; 4/4. 2/4. 3/4. 6/8 and all that good stuff.
In this part, the top or bottom number will be missing. You have to study and figure out what fits best.

Part VI:
Key Signature Recognition.
You get a few key signatures. You have to find the major, and the relative minor.
Easy? x3

Part VII:
Terms, Symbols and Definitions.
This is a bit chunk of the test. You get about 18-20 words/symbols and you have to match the definition to them.
My weak spot, kinda. But in the practice runs, I've did alright so far.

In order to pass you need a 70% or higher. In the practice runs I've done at my school I've gotton no lower then an 88%. :3

After the written part is the sightreading.
You get six levels of it, and are only required to get ten measures right.

First level: Pretty simple. Up and down scale. No skips & nothing more harder then a dotted rhythm.

Second level: Almost the same as the first, but added a dotted quarter note and some eigth notes.

Third level: Same as the first two, but skips are added, and the rhythm becomes semi-difficult.

Fourth level: You go into minor. If your brain can go from major to minor in thirty seconds, then you're set. Skips are still there and the solvege changes to: La, Ti, Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Si, La.

Fifth level: You're back in a major scale and it's pretty self-giving stuff. The only thing that chages is the time signature. What use to be 4/4 or 3/4 is now 6/8. Really simple. x]

Sixth level: Don't get me started on how hard this is. The rhythm is more then difficult and the skips are atrocious. DD; Sometimes I can't even get to the second system.

There are eight measures in each level. You only need to get ten out of fourty-eight measures. Easy. ;33333

Here I go. I shall update when I get back.

OMG. *Cries*

I saw my only most favorite teacher! That's right, Mr. Davis!
You don't know how happy I am!
I hugged onto him until he absolutly had to go.

That made my day.

Well. Guess what guys? I passed.
Yep.
Now onto the hard part.

I just hope that I can have a day with Mr. Davis. Cause I asked him to spend a day with me soon. x3

I love him so much.

You can ask Neal. D;

Davissss.. <33
