She was always smiling so happily


There was once a girl,
who seemed perfect in all ways:
nice looks and good grades,
she hung around with her friends all days.
She had a lot of friends,
since nobody could hate her.
How can you possibly hate a girl,
who's always smiling so happily?

Who could know the fears she had,
the secrets hidden under her clothes?
In the forms, of bruises and scars,
of painfull memories that were pushed away.
She couldn't tell any of her friends,
because of shame, because of fear.
And who'd expect this from a girl,
who's always smiling so happily?

Her father was an alcoholic,
who used to batter her every day,
and she, who could do nothing about this,
just bowed her head in fear.
She was silent to her friends,
and pretended to be alright.
But can you recognize in this girl,
the one who's always smiling so happily?

One week later this girl died,
her father had gone too far that night,
but from the bruises everyone could see,
this happy girl her misery.
Then everybody was wondering how,
with all things that happened at home,
all those things she couldn't tell,
she was still always smiling so happily.

Now she finally left this life,
that couldn't bring her any good.
But maybe somewhere high above us,
in heaven, where only deads go,
where this girl has also went just now,
there has arrived an angel,
who has finally became really pretty,
finally learned to smile happily.
