My heart is bathed in darkness, armored and sheltered by the nemesis of the light. I reveal a cold, uncaring face to the world at large, though past the darkness is a small spark of light. There are few whom I allow to view this spark. Sheltering it is a vast expanse of darkness and ice, cold and forbiding. The few who have made their way past my shelter have learned that past the mask is a warm, caring, and shy young girl just waiting for someone to come and lead her from the darkness. So far, however, none have managed to guide her back out. Of the few who have made it past the ice, fewer still have opted to stay with the vulnerable child that I am deep inside, and offer her their own light to increase her own and drive back the darkness. My darkness is my defense, my safety, and my bane.
