A meeting of Zoe, the writer's club, is in full swing. Everyone seems to be in a sweet, fluffy mood, and the readings reflect that. One of my friends reads a poem about
Quote: Those romance-movie moments that are too good to last forever.
So I start thinking.
All of my friends write poems of varying flavors about love. Current love, past love both sweet and sour, love deeply felt but never reciprocated. But every time, it is 'about' someone in particular. Sometimes, another friend can say
Quote: I know who that poem is about.
So why can't I write that way?
Maybe it's because I've never been in love. Not with a real person. Not if you exempt family and dear friends, because of course that isn't the same. I love fictional characters. I love those people who can never exist because they are too perfect, even in their imperfections. I love those who are so good, so true, that we can touch only in the electric current between kindred spirits.
Sometimes I feel as if I'm missing something.
