It was now about 10pm and Cy was sitting back on the couch. The fire blazed in the hearth like a minature sun. He looked to June, who was sitting quietly next to him. Then a thought came to him. Did she have a tail? Unsure whether to ask, he hesitated before placing his book down. Turning to the feline girl, he spoke.
"..June..if you don't mind me asking.." She looked to him.
" What is it, Cyprus?"
"..Well, err. I was wondering if you had..a tail." He coughed nervously, unknowing if that wasn't a good thing to ask. Instead of ignoring his question or something, she simply stood. Feeling around her waist, she unwrapped the sleek black tail from under her shirt. She always kept it up, because she didn't like it much.
" It annoys me, so I keep it hidden most of the time.." She blushed some, and sat back down. Cy laughed a bit, smiling.
" I think it's cute. It's not often one is seen with a tail around here." This caused June to smile slightly, blushing. After a while, he heard what seemed like purring. Looking over, he saw June asleep on the other side of the couch. Chuckling to himself, his gaze drifted down to her long, thin tail. It twitched now and then, and he was amazed at how she could sleep and still be so adorable.
Carefully, he picked her up and carried her to the bedroom. He decided tomorrow he would find a room suitable for her to stay in. Laying her onto the bed, he pulled the blankets over her and left the room, returning down stairs to clean up some. He had neglected really cleaning because off what had been happening the past few days. Cyprus sighed some, pulling the pillows straight on the sofa. He sat, gazing into the fire. It was nice to have company around now, after being kept up alone in the house.
His slate colored orbs wandered to the bag he left over by the door, the bag he had used to raid June's home. He sighed, figuring it would be the last heist he would go on. June just meant to much to him now and he didn't want to ruin their friendship.
After a little while and when the fire had died down in the hearth, Cy rose from the couch. He pulled himself up the stairs. He was unusually tired and it puzzled him some. Opening the door as quiet as he could, as not to wake June, he changed and climbed into the bed. It really wasn't that bad sleeping in the same bed as June, but he wanted to make sure she had her own room to sleep in.
Cy awoke with an accidental nudge from June. He opened an eye to find her right next to him, asleep. Shifting some so he could roll over and sit up, Cy yawned widely. Looking to June, who was peacefully sleeping, he blinked as Pin fluttered over and landed on his shoulder. Standing, Cy pulled on a clean shirt and looked into the mirror.
Unlike regular vampires, he could see his reflection. Today, he decided he would leave his hair down. It was just one of those days. He smiled some to himself and then walked back to the bed, pulling the blankets on his side flat. He decended the stair and went to the kitched and boiled water for tea. He sat, looking out of the window. It had snowed again last night, the white fluff was about two feet high and still rising.
The kettle sang in it's screetchy voice and he removed it from the stovetop. As he sipped the tea, he thought about June who was still upstairs in the bedroom. There was something about her he liked a lot. She was so quiet. He barely knew a thing about her, let alone what she was. She couldn't possibly be a hybrid, she just seemed too much like one thing. None the less, he was glad she was staying with him. When she woke up, he'd sort out a room for her.
Then a thought came to mind. Today was the twenty-third of December. Two days before Christmas. Today was special because it was the day of the Raising of the Tree. He smiled, finishing his tea off and heading back up the stairs.
* * * *
When he opened the door of the bedroom, he found June sitting on the bed awake. She smiled softly to him. He laughed a bit.
"Today, June, is the Raising of the Tree down in town square. Christmas is in a few days and they're putting up a tree and everyone one's going to help decorate it. Do you want to go?"
June stood, swaying some on the balls of her feet. She nodded happily. Cy sat on the bed, pulling his black boots on. After a moment, he looked up at June. She was grinning, looking at him.
"..What is it?" He asked quizzically.
"Your hair is down." She giggled a bit.
He blinked some before answering. "..Oh. Heh."
"It's usually up, correct?"
"Yeah, how'd you know?"
June didn't answer, but instead she laughed a bit again. Cy's brow raised and he shook his head some, chuckling to himself.
After they had both gotten ready and he had helped her into her coat, they set out down the path to town. Once there, Cy had to grab onto June's hand quickly so she didn't get pushed away. What with all the festivities, the town was busy with people, merchants, and visitors of all kinds. June looked in awe as a family of elves passed them. Cy smiled a bit, nodding his head in awknowledgement to people who greeted him.
Just as they hurried along to the square, they saw the enormously bulky fir tree being lifted upright by ropes pulled by dwarven men. Junes staired up at the tall, over-shadowing greenery. Soon enough, people rushed in and started flinging ornaments onto trees. Cy and June were pushed back and Cy frowned a bit.
"I guess we can't really help now.." He looked down to June.
"That's fine." She smiled some, holding happilty to his arm. They swung around and was suddenly face to face with a family of four. The father exclaimed and started talking with Cyprus. June figured they must have been friends or something. There was a small child clinging to the skirt of a woman, the mother most likely. The child started at her in awe for a moment until asking, " Are you a kitty princess?" June looked down, blinking some. Cy heard this and laughed. June really didn't know how to respond.
"..Ah..Err.." She looked to Cy, laughing in a nervous manner. The mother scolded the child for being rude and apologized to June.
" I'm sorry, I suppose she's never seen one of your kind."
" Oh, no it's all right." She smiled some. Soon, the family left and Cy and June continued through town.
"..June?" Cy asked as they were heading back to the house.
"Yeah, Cy?" She looked to him.
" When we get back I'll figure out a room for you to stay in..Unless... You want to stay in my room from here on out.." He adverted his gaze, his voice quiet and unsure. June really didn't know how to answer. She rather liked staying in the room with Cyprus and she didn't want him to go through all the hassle to get her her own room. She studdered some and then answered.
"..A-actually..I don't mind sleeping in your room with you.." Her face tainted a light pink. Cy looked to her.
"R-r-really?" He blinked some and then smiled. " Then I'm glad." He slipped an arm around hers as they walked down the darkening path. Soon, it started to pour. This was followed by thunder and lightning.Cy covered them both by holding his cloak up and over them. To add to the horrible outcome of the night, there was a tremendous tree accrossed the pathway. There was no possible way of getting around it either.
Cy moved June under the trees. " We'll have to go through the forest. The rain should stop soon, it never rains for long down here.." June nodded some. They headed through the woods and soon enough, the rain did stop and they were left in the dark with many beasts watching from the shadows around them.
* * * *
The shortcut path that Cy and June took was eluminated by the large moon that loomed up above them.June clinged to Cy's arm in a scared manner. He held an arm around her shoulder in a protective manner. Then, a loud rustling and growling noise came from behind them. Cy turned, scowling.
"..What was that?" June whispered loudly.
" I don't know, but whatever it is, I won't let it harm you." He smiled reassuringly but was suddenly stopped when a deep, malicious laugh ruptured the quiet night.
"..Oh, no..June, stay over there by that tree." He hissed. June scurried back and Cy reached into his trench and drew his blade, which he had cleverly concealed under his coat. Sliding a foot back into his ready stance, he gritted his teeth when a large, bulky figure stepped from out of the bushes. It stood on all fours and had lumanecent golden eyes that peirced the like a search-light. A sly smile curled at the mouth of the beast, yellow teeth dripping with malice. Cy's slanted eyebrows met in a point, furrowed. The beast they were facing was a Dormana, a Bear-Dog like creature. Most of them belonged to The Evil.
With a raspy voice so deep, the beast lifted his head. " Cyprus La Ciel." It sounded out every sylable of his name in a sour way. " I've been watching you for many a moon. Every move, every trip to the town. Now I see you've collected a new treasure, oh Great Talking Shadow." It rose up on two legs now, giving a mock bow. Despite it's animalistic appearance, the Dormana was also very human.
Cy growled under his breath. It was so dark outside. If he made one falso move during combat, the Dormana could indefinately get around him and capture June. He had to pretect her with his life.
"What do you want, demon?"
"Your words hurt me." The grin slowly faded and the Dormana's eyes narrowed into a glare. June clung to a tree helplessly. All she could really do was sit and watch. "I know you better than you know yourself. All the lies you tell yourself. How it wasn't your fault your parents were killed. How you're finished being a theif.."The monster paced on all fours, listing things off.
" Shut..up! " Cy yelled, his hand dropping some.
"..How you love being a hybrid.." The beast continued.
" Shut up, Shut up, Shut up!" Cy wailed, dropping to his knees and gripping his head as it swarmed with pain.
" Cyprus!" June exclaimed about to advance for him, but a look from the Dormana made her stop in her tracks. More, the beast talked.
"..But! Those things you keep telling yourself. The things you make yourself believe , they're all so untrue. It was your fault your parents were killed. You're not finished being a thief. And you just --hate-- being a hybrid. Isn't it so true, Cyprus? Isn't it true?" The beast stopped now, taking pleasure in Cy's pain and agony. " You can't even handle being --part-- vampire. You give the race a bad name." The Dormana scowled ruthlessly.
" I...told you to..Shut...UP!" Cy yelled, standing quickly and rushing at the being, eyes red and burning. The demon was caught off guard as the end of Cy's blade ripping right into it's side. IT growled, jumping back swiftly, despite it's size.
" You'll pay, Hybrid." The Dormana hissed, taking back to two legs and jumping at Cy. He dodged, just barely missing the beasts blow. He took a swing at the demons back, but it was parried by the scaled tail of the beast. The being raised a heavy paw, thrusting it into Cy's chest, causing him to fly backwards into a tree right above June. He fell to the ground with an 'umph.'
" Cy! Are you all right?"
"..I'm fine. Just stay back, June." He quickly stood to again meet with the cackling demon. He noticed the beast was lagging from the large wound in it's side. The great thing about Dormana was that they didn't heal cuts like other demons. It would eventually make the being slow even more. Cy decided to stay away and take swings when he could.
( I know it's a bit cheesy until the end of this part, but there's more to come anyways. =/ Just wait until the fight with Drake! )
