Well, hello!
I freely admit that I have been completely neglectful of you, Dear Diary. But, like Gaia in general, I haven't come back to these pages in quite a while. I think I need to make at least one more entry before hanging up the quill here. As strongly as I felt about the Armistice Day entry, I don't think I want to leave the journal like that. Like all terrible times, the Great War did pass. Lives were destroyed, but we moved on, didn't we? Since then, for all the unhappiness in the world, we have also seen people fall in love, have families, laugh together, and occasionally make a decent cup of tea. The latter is a note I would rather leave on.
This is starting to sound like a "Farewell to Gaia" letter, but it is not. I still do pop in to check my PMs and profile notes. I still like the cartoons, and I am still fond of videogames (though I must admit, I am rather tired of Cards and Fishing now, and never did enjoy the puzzle game). But I am unlikely to spend as much time here as I have in the past. I have given up on the forums, perhaps because I had enough of that sort of talk in High School--I enjoy chatting with teens (as most of you are), but the sort of "Study Hall Argument" I found in the ED forums was more annoying than anything else. And I didn't come here to be annoyed.
I did come here to spend time with The Wonder That Is "Oxbridge" while I was on the road, and in fact, I am on the road again as I write this. He's off to rehearsal in a few minutes, tells me Puppy is well but shedding madly (Hello? It's the winter, you silly beast. We call her "Dandelion Dog" for a reason). And we chatted a bit on the phone, but he didn't have time to sign on here and do one of our "virtual dates", though sad
But in general, the work that took me on the road has been more at home lately. And I have been more at home. Geeks that we are, we will watch cartoons together in the evening while munching popcorn and playing with Puppy. Oh, lest you wonder too much, we do go out too razz Nice little wineshop on the corner that reminds us of the atmosphere of Parisian brasseries--lets you hang out there for hours over a glass and even order pizza for delivery.
Internet use has been down, a little bit. As I said, though, we remain geeky. We do online games together in the same room, as well--he loves some World of Warcraft thing, and I like to play Second Life, a game where I can design clothes and things like that. But we don't have the need to be on a game simultaneously, because we're right there together. He'll kill some nasty monster and I'll run over and pat him on the head and distract him, I'll make some shoes and he'll fake some appreciative noises. So we have our electronica fix, but hardly as much as the hours I put in before, when it was our way of being together virtually when we were apart in reality.
But as the title says "Au Revoir", not "Goodbye". I have been signing on every few days, please do drop a line every now and then. And I may be bored by Cards, but not by conversation! If you see me pass through, do give a shout. Take care, my Gaia friends.
As the Bumper Sticker Says:
All who wander are not lost--
Wandering and always Wondering,
V.
