The Princess and The Thief
Chapter 1:

"Stop thief!" yelled the fat shop owner as Miko ran through the streets. "You have to catch me!" she yelled back darting into an alley. She could hear the guards talking with the man and then their armor clink as they ran after her. A smirk spread across her face in the darkness as the guards ran into the alley. As soon as they were all inside, she leaped over their heads and bolted for the streets leaving them stunned and bewildered.

"Nara, you up yet deary?" asked the maid as she knocked on the door. "Nara?" she asked again more sternly and opened the door. "Not again." the maid cried and ran out the door to find the queen.

"Wow it's so huge!" A girl said wide eyed as she looked at the town shops. "Yes it is. Your sure mom said it was ok?" asked a man standing next to her. "Yeah sure." the girl lied looking around again listening to the sounds. The man looked his sister over carefully but knew he wouldn't be able to get it out of her. "Hold on Nara." he said suddenly and put his hand out in front of Nara to stop her. "What is it Koji?" Nara asked looking around a little afraid but excited to see what was going on. "Stay here." he ordered and ran off in the direction the yelling voices were. Nara couldn't stand to be ordered around like a little kid. "I’m 10! I’m not a little girl!" she yelled after Koji but he didn't hear her. "fine." she pouted and followed after him into the crowd.

"Ha-ha!" Miko laughed at the guards trying to chase her. She knew the town better then she knew anything else and wasn't about to let her self starve that night because of some guards. Miko looked behind her to see the guards had fallen back and had given up the chase. "Yes!" she cheered and faced forward only to run into someone. "Hey-" but she stopped seeing the colors on the guys’ clothes. She picked her self up and wiped the dust off her clothes. "Your coming with me thief." the man said and went to catch her. Miko jumped back making sure he couldn't grab her "no way pall, not with out dinner." she joked smirking and ran at him. The man went to grab her again and she flipped over him and bolted for the out skirts of town.

"Koji!" yelled Nara as she made her way through the city utterly lost. "Koji!" she said again whining. Nara sat down near the gate and placed her head in her hands. "Now what?" she asked her self listening to how quiet it was. Suddenly the quietness was shattered as running foot steps met her ears. Nara tensed up wondering if all the things her parents told her about thieves and killers was true. Nara stood up so fast she got dizzy and had to steady her self before her vision cleared and a girl a few years older then her stood in her line of vision "well, I just can't get away form you royal folk can I?" she said and looked Nara over. The girl looked back into Nara's eyes and then took a deep bow "Princess." she said and stood back up a smile on her face. "What brings you to my part of the town?" she asked and sat down. "I-I go-got l-lost." Nara stuttered out and looked the girl up and down 'a thief!' she thought in horror. The girl pulled out what looked like bread and slowly started to eat it "you know-" she said threw mouth fulls "this bread, isn’t what it used to be." with that she took another bite. "What you aint never seen a person eat?" the thief asked seeing Nara's face of shock. "N-no." she stammered out backing up but ended up falling on her butt. "ouch." she mumbled. "here." said the thief who was now standing over Nara with her hand held out to help her up. Nara looked from the hand, to the owner of it and back at the hand "it won’t bite. Geez. I’m not the plague." she said with a friendly smile. Nara took it and was hoisted onto her feet. "So what's your name?" she asked finally wanting to thank the thief properly. "Miko." she said simply and sat back down to eat. "well-" Nara started to say but Miko cut her off "so you’re lost, right?" she said looking the bread over and plucking an imaginary thing out of it then took a bite. "Yeah, I am." Nara said blushing, embarrassed she got lost in her own home town. Miko just started to laugh and Nara's face turned bright red with anger now "what!?" she snapped and the thief kept laughing "it's just your face. You don’t get out much do you?" she asked stopping and taking a deep breath. "No I don’t ok!" Nara said again. "Chill! I’m not holding it against you. If you don’t get out, you don’t know the town. No need to be embarrassed about it." Miko said wondering if all royals were like this. Nara's face turned red again as she realized Miko wasn't making fun of her but trying to help. She also had no care if Nara was a royal or just a piece of trash like her. Miko stopped eating and looked up at Nara. "So, you want a way home or what?" she asked kindly but you could tell she didn't want to. "That would be nice." Nara said taking a look around. "Well then, let’s go." Miko said and shoot up already heading off down a dusty path. "Wait!" Nara cried running to catch up. Miko just let out a simple laugh and kept walking the Castle getting closer and closer.

“Mom I’m sorry!" Koji said over and over again. His Mother paced the room worried about Nara. "Oh where could she be!" she cried and sat down. "Mom, I’ll find her." Koji said trying to comfort his mother who seemed to be stressed about everything that had been going on. "Madam, someone is here at the door." said a servant walking in and stopped looking from the Prince to the Queen. "What do they want?" Koji asked patting his mother on the back as she worried about Nara. "They say, 'you owe me dinner'" and with that Koji bolted out of the room leaving his mother and everyone else stunned. 'What does the thief want?' he thought running to antechamber and opening the door "Koji!" yelled Nara scaring him and leaped into her brothers arms. Miko stood in the corner smiling to her self almost a motherly smile watching the two. Koji looked stunned as he looked form Miko to Nara. He hugged Nara and then set her down "Koji! It was awesome! We went threw the city and I saw so many things!" Nara said bouncing around "that's nice Nara, go see mom." he said kindly not showing any hint of anger, or sternness but Miko knew better and picked it out. She sighed seeing it as her queue to split. "Ok! Thanks again Miko!" she called and ran to the throne room. Koji turned to Miko and snapped his figures, the doors Miko was just about to go threw slammed shut. "Come on don’t make me fight you Prince." she said facing him and shaking her head. Koji looked her up and down then pulled up a chair and sat down "tell me, why did you help my baby sister?" he asked putting his hand under his chin acting like the King already. "Well, to tell you the truth, I just wanted to see you again. Those dreamy eyes, the tan skin, the way your hair always looks perfect." she said sarcastically and plopped down in a seat "now I have to burn that couch." Said Koji with a sigh. "Oh, in that case-" Miko said and spread out on it lying on her back. "You won’t mind me laying her." she finished and closed her eyes. Koji seemed a little ticked and stood up. "How dare you!" he shouted "no how dare you!" she said and stood up coming face to face with him. "You got money just buy a new one!" she yelled at him her eyes a flame with anger. Koji backed down and sat in the chair again. "Please, relax." he said but she could tell her forced it. "No I’ll leave. I’m tired of this place. To rich for my taste." she said turning into her old self again. She crossed her arms "no please, stay awhile. I want to thank you for finding my sister." he said and smirked "fine, you want to fight me? Lets go." she said and as soon as Miko agreed Koji pounced on her like a spring and tackled her to the ground. "So, you really want to fight me?" he asked pinning her down. She pushed up with her legs flipping them over and she now pinned him "only if I get to be on top." she said as he pushed her off. She flipped onto her hands and pushed off righting her self and stood smirking at him. He stood up and glared at her. "You know, you can let me leave." she said simply like it was the easiest thing in the world. "No way." Koji said and ran at her again. Miko dodged his punches and swerved to the side. Koji smirked as Miko hit the wall and she looked up at his startled. He pinned her to the wall using his for arm and whispered in her ear "now who's the better fighter?" and with that he laughed letting his guard down. "me." she said pretending to think and slid under neigh him and ran for the window. "Guards!" Koji yelled giving chase. Miko leaped out the window and fell down a few stories. Koji ran to the window and looked out as the guards came in. He tried to spy Miko in the water but it was to dark. "Damn it!" he cursed. Nara ran in and looked the place over "what happened?” she asked confused. "Nothing Nara, just go to bed." he said not taking his eyes off the water.

Miko pulled her self up to the bank and out of the water. She shivered on the lake side and looked up at the window. Her arm hurt like heck and she cradled it in her right arm. Koji seemed to have spotted her and he ran away from the window. Miko was breathing hard after the fight with the current and stood up swaying on her feet. She stumbled into the forest wiped out from everything that had happened so far. 'What a day.' she thought finding a run down house to sleep in.

"Koji what did you do!?" Nara insisted on finding out. "Nothing! She jumped through the window and into the lake." He said trying to get some sleep. Nara pouted and ran out of the room. Koji sighed and got out of bed to go to her room. He knocked on the door and got a "go away!” "Nara, listen, she's a thief, no matter what." he said and she only cried more. "I know. All the people here are only nice to me because I’m the princess. They let me win, she doesn't care." Nara said as Koji sat on the bed. She leaned in and cried on her brothers’ shirt. "It’s not fair!" she whined sniffling. "It never is...” he said trying to calm her down. Nara soon fell asleep and Koji tucked her into bed then went back to his room. Koji tried to sleep but something kept nagging at him. 'I didn't really kill her right?' he thought wondering why this seemed different. 'It’s because Nara made a real friend and I just went and killed her.' he answered himself and sighed rolling over.
