The Dance
As I spun I could feel him watching
Even though I made it up as I went
He watched.
He made me feel as though I was on a stage
With a huge audience
Not in a room just with a loving grandfather
I stop spinning and leap into a clumsy set of steps
All the while he is “oohing” and “ahhing”
And clapping and laughing
I start to laugh too
We both laugh so hard I fall
Right into his lap.
“That was a great performance, my little dancer.”
He says after the laughter dies down
“Thank you, Papa.” I say as my little mind wanders off
Then I am back into the next made up dance
To an imaginary song
On a invisible stage
With a pretend costume
In front of a one-of-a-kind real loving grandfather..
