Chapter 1 Part B

Naomi stretched feeling the basking glow of the sun. She stood up and dusted herself off. She walked through the church's big wooden double doors and into the church kitchen lightly humming as she made herself breakfast. She went to the fridge and took out some eggs. She set the carton on the counter and gently twisted the knob of the gas stove. A blue flame appeared and flickered licking the soft breeze that came in from an open window. She bent down to a cabinet taking out a skillet and gently placing it on the stove. She then went back to the fridge taking out a stick of butter on a silver tray. She carried it over to the counter and opened a drawer taking out a butter knife. She sliced the butter and put it on the bottom of the skillet. The butter simmered and started to melt quickly. She lifted the skillet slightly dipping it from side to side letting the butter cover the bottom of the pan with its clear glaze. She then tapped the egg on the side of the counter making a small crack. Naomi applied a little pressure and cracked the egg in half. The yellow yolk and whites ran onto the skillet. There was a soft crackling as the egg started to cook. Naomi went to a drawer grabbing a spatula. She quietly stood in front of the sizzling egg listening to the soft crackling. About a half a minuet latter she flipped the egg gently. There was a loud sizzle as the fragile yolk touched the bottom of the pan. Naomi sighed.

"I am going to that school tomorrow. I know I should probably try and fit in here." Naomi said softly to herself.

Naomi took the egg and put it on a glass plate. She put away all her supplies and sat down with a fork. She gently broke the yolk watching the orange liquid run down the sides making a pool. She broke off some of the whites and rubbed it in the pool of yolk letting the whites suck it up like a sponge. She ate it quickly and quietly feeling very alone. When she had finished she rested the palms of her hands on her chin holding her head up.

What should I do today? I have to waste some energy. Maybe I'll go for a walk. Naomi thought deeply.

Naomi's elbow slipped and the glass plate fell off the side of the counter. It shattered and sent a shard in the side of her leg. Naomi pulled her leg up and took out the shard. Blood started to pour out of the wound. She sighed and gently rubbed the wound with the palm of her hand. There was a soft glow on Naomi's palm. She removed her hand and the wound was gone. Her hand was dyed red.

"Damn this will never come off." She whispered angrily walking to the bathroom.

She took some soap and rubbed her hands against it making small soapy suds. She ran it under the water watching the blood stained suds run down the sink and into the drain. Her hands were still slightly red. She walked to the janitorial closet took out a mop and gently cleaned the blood and glass.
